Lesson plan - Britain's got talent
Lesson plan - Britain's got talent
Level: Intermediate, secondary
Theme: Talented people
Focus: Listening, Speaking, Writing
Aim: To describe a performance that makes pupils surprising
1. Warm-up
Ask pupils if they have seen a TV show "One minute fame", what performance they like most of all, if they could show something unusual that would make the judges speechless, if they have heard about Britain's got talent, etc.
Go to the site: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSPq1j_Ny8s
2. Preparation: Matching
Before watching a video pupils do a preparation task. Match the vocabulary with the correct definition.
3. Watching a video
Pause the video when Amanda (one of the judges) wishes Steven Hall good luck and ask pupils 'What is Steven Hall going to do on stage?' (if he sings, dances, recites a poem). The next pause is when Steven Hall has performed the act and he is waiting for the judges' evaluation. Ask pupils 'What are the judges' opinion?' Pupils give predictions and then watch the video to the end.
4. Post - watching activity
Check your understanding: multiple choice
Check your language: gap fill
Check your vocabulary: grouping - adjectives
Check your grammar: gap fill questions
All the activities are on the website. Pupils can do and check answers. A teacher monitors.
5. Use the activity in Word with the adjectives taken out.
Where have all the adjectives gone? All the adjectives (highlighted) have been taken out of this text. Work with a partner to put them back in again. The auditions really need something more dynamic, more exciting. A 53-year-old Steven hall is the man to deliver it. He can do something amazing. He sings in free styles. It is surprising for this old man. His dance is brilliant. The viewers are dazzled/amazed. The judges are amused and impressed. Amanda leaves speechless and she is pleased with Steven's performance. He was really born to dance. It isexhilarating and Liverpool loves him. It's unbelievable but he is through to the next round. |
5. Post-task activity
Questions for discussion.
6. Lesson outcome
Ask pupils 'What have you learned in this lesson?' Give pupils homework to write about an unusual performance like this using adjectives they have learnt in the lesson.
The lesson is based on the British Council site.
