Цель урока: ознакомить студентов 1 курса со страноведческой информацией о своей родной стране – России.

Задачи настоящего практического задания:

1) систематизация знаний обучающихся по теме;

2) совершенствование навыков чтения, письма, монологического высказывания;

3) совершенствование умения работы с текстом;

4) развитие коммуникативных навыков;

5) расширение словарного запаса;

6) расширение кругозора и фоновых знаний у обучающихся;

7) воспитание у обучающихся чувства патриотизма, любви и гордости за свою страну.

Урок состоит из двух разделов:

-Student’sSection, в котором представлены упражнения до знакомства с текстом (Pre-readingexercises), направленные на расширение фоновых знаний о стране, отработку произношения отдельных слов, которые могут вызвать наибольшие затруднения у обучающихся, а также упражнения после прочтения текста (Post-readingexercises), которые направлены на закрепление прочитанного материала, развитие навыков чтения, понимания содержания прочитанного, отработку грамматического материала.

-Teacher’sSection, в котором содержатся рекомендации по проведению урока, дополнительные задания и вопросы.

Данная разработка рассчитана на 8-10 часов

The Russian Federation is the largest country in the world. It occupies one seventh of the Earth’s surface. It is situated both in Europe and Asia. The total area is over 17 million square kilometers. It is the world’s ninth most populous nation with more than 146 million people as of 2023.

Russia borders on 18 countries including the former USSR republics which are now independent states. Our neighbours in the south are China, Mongolia, Korea, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Azerbaijan. In the north-west we share borders with Norway, Finland, in the west with Belarus, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and in the south-west with Ukraine. Also Russia shares maritime borders with both the United States and Japan.

There is no country in the world like Russia, te steppes in the south, plains and forests in the midland, tundra and taiga in the north, highlands and deserts in the east.

The country is washed by 12 seas and 3 oceans: the Pacific, the Arctic and the Atlantic oceans. There is a great number of rivers in Russia. The Volga, the longest river in Europe, flows into the Caspian Sea. The main Siberian rivers, the Ob, the Yenissey, and the Lena, flow from the south to the north. The Amur in the Far East flows into the Pacific Ocean. The deepest lake in the world is Baikal. The water in the lake is so clear that you can see the stones on the bottom.

Many tourists, climbers, hikers, geologists, and biologists from around the world are attracted by Russia’s mountains, among them are Kazbek, Elbrus, Dykh-Tau and others. The towering majestic mountains of Russia rarely stand single. For the most part, mountains are adjoining each other and form continuous mountain ranges. These include the Caucasus Mountains, the Altai Mountains, the Ural Mountains and the Sayan Mountains.

Because of the vast territory there are various types of climate in the country. The climate varies greatly in different regions. It is very cold in the north even in summer. The central part of the country has mild climate. In the south the temperature is usually above zero all year round even in winter, the climate is very fabourable.

Russia is very rich in oil, coal, iron ore, natural gas, copper, nickel and other mineral resources.

The President is the head of the state and is elected by the people. The State Duma and the Council of Federation are the legislative branch of the government.

The capital of Russia is Moscow. It is the largest political, cultural and industrial center. It is one of the oldest Russian cities.

The national symbols of Russia are part of the cultural heritage of the country which has given the country its national identity. The national flag of Russia is a tricolor with three horizontal stripes: white on the top, blue in the middle, and red on the bottom. The current Russian flag was adopted on August 21, 1991 just before the country became an independent state. The coat of arms of Russia depicts a two-headed eagle. The national anthem is another symbol of the country which inspires the Russian people.The music was composed by Alexander Alexandrov and the lyrics were written by Sergey Mikhalkov.

В начале урока учитель спрашивает перевод темы урока и беседует со студентами о значении слова “native”

Вопросы 1-4

1. После ответа на вопрос учитель просит студентов построить предложение: Общая площадь России – 17 000 000 кв. км - ThetotalareaofRussiais 17 mln.sq.km.

Учитель спрашивает, почему в английском языкеRussia употребляется без артикля, а theRussianFederation – с артиклем the. Вспоминают правила употребления артиклей с географическим объектами.

2. После ответа на вопрос учитель просит студентов построить предложения:

Самая длинная река – Лена. Её протяжённость – 4294 км.

The longest river is the Lena. It is 4,294 km long.

Учитель напоминает правило употребление артиклей с названиями водоёмов. Также повторяются числительные.

3. После ответа на вопрос учитель просит студентов составить предложения:

Самое глубокое озеро в мире – Байкал. Его глубина – 1642 метров.

The deepest lake in the world is Baikal. Itis 1,642 mdeep.

Дополнительно учитель может спросить про глубину каждого озера, а также спросить, где они расположены, предложив составить соответствующие предложения

4. Перед ответом на вопрос учитель может задать следующие наводящие вопросы:Whatisthepopulationof …? / Howmanypeoplelivein ….?

Post-reading exercises

1. После названия заголовка каждой части текста учитель спрашивает, почему именно этот заголовок подходит к данной части, тем самым спрашивает краткое содержание каждой части, что поможет понять понимают ли студенты прочитанное.

3. Предлагается данное задание выполнять в виде игры. Учитель делит группу студентов на две команды. Определяются командиры команд. Командир решает, какой адрес ячейки (квадрата) из таблицы открыть (А1, В3 и т.д.), в каждой ячейке скрыт номер вопроса, например:

Очко получает так команда, которая не только правильно по содержания отвечает на вопрос, но и даёт грамматически построенный ответ. Если одна из команд допускает ошибку, то другая команда имеет право правильно ответить на вопрос, тем самым «забрать» себе очко другой команды, допустившей ошибку при ответе. В конце подводится итог, определяется выигравшая команда.
