Stand up. Good morning, dear friends! I am glad to see you.

- At the beginning of our lesson you have heard a song.

Do you know this song? It’s a very old Scottish song

«Auldlangsyne». People usually sing this song at New Year’s eve, when they sit with their friends and relatives at the table. Can you guess what this song is about?

Very well. You are quite right. People like this traditional song because it’s about friendship. «Auldlangsyne» is translated from Scottish into English “Old friendship”

You know, friendship plays an important role in our life. Some people want to have a lot of friends, others need one, or two close ones. Sometimes you choose friends, sometimes other people choose you as their friend. Some people often change their friends, others try to keep their old ones. All people want to have good, true, devoted friends.

But for whom do you think friends are more important

a) for little children, b) for teenagers or for grown-ups?

Explain why.

But the problem is “How to become a good friend?” Let’s learn today how to become a good friend.

In order to become a good friend first of all you should know words of wisdom, proverbs about friendship. Let’s see how many proverbs about friendship do you remember. Name them one after another. Repeat all together.

To be a good friend means to be able to listen to other people’s problems. Are you ready to listen to your friend for hours? Listen to the dialogue and say in what city the conversation is taking place?

Situation 2. Make up a dialogue “Two friends are talking after the lessons”.

Situation 3. Make up a dialogue “Two friends are talking about a relative, who is coming to stay with one of the friend’s family”.

- There are different holidays in the world. When is the day of love celebrated? Well.

- And do you know when the day of friendship is celebrated?

-Friendship Day celebrations take place on the first Sunday of August every year. The tradition of dedicating a day in honor of friends began in US in 1935. Gradually the festival gained popularity and today Friendship Day is celebrated in large number of countries. On this day people spend time with their friends and express love for them. Exchange of Friendship Day Gifts like flowers, cards and wrist bands is a popular tradition of this occasion.

International Friendship Day was traditionally celebrated on the first Sunday of August each year. However, in 2011 the United Nations declared July 30 to be the new International Day of friendship. What do people do on Friendship day?

Let’s read some cards and translate them, I will give you medals for your good reading and translation.

The day of love is on the 14 of February. It’s St. Valentine’s day.

To be a good friend also means that you know everything about your friend, about his preferences, about his dreams. Prepare a story about one of your friends. Other teams will ask you as many questions as they can about your friend

The pupils tell about their friends, then pupils ask them question. It’a an individual game.

A good friend is always ready to help, to give advice.

1. A good friend has borrowed money from you several times but hasn’t paid it back. He/she has just asked you again to lend him/her 20 roubles. Would you:

a – lend him/her the money and say nothing?

b – refuse to lend the money and tell him/her why?

c – say that you didn’t have any money?

2. Your best friend has written a song. He/she thinks it is wonderful. You think it is terrible. He/she asks you for your opinion. Would you:

a – say that it was the best song you’d ever heard?

b – say that you thought it was quite good but that he/she should ask for other people’s opinions as well?

c – say that it was the worst thing you’d ever heard?

3. You have invited ten friends to a party. At school you see a boy you didn’t invite to the party because you don’t like him very much. He knows about the party and he wants to know why you didn’t invite him. Would you:

a – tell him that you were only allowed to invite ten people?

b – tell him that his invitation must have got lost in the post?

c – tell him that you didn’t like him?
