To be patriotic is very important nowadays.

But are our children PATRIOTIC? We research this problem.

What does it mean to be patriotic? It's a very difficult question.

We live in Russia. The Russian Federation is the largest country in the world. It's population is 150000 000(one hundred and fifty million people).It occupies a large territory-about one-seventh of the earth surface. There are two great plains in Russia :The great Russian Plain and the West Siberian Lowland. There are several mountains chains , 2 million rivers, many beautiful lakes in Russia. Russia has one- sixth of the world forests..

I think to be patriotic means to love your own country, to know its history, to follow its traditions. Are our teens patriotic? To find out it we asked some questions to 60 pupils. They have answered our questions and we have analyzed their opinions.

Here are our results

The main national symbols of each state are : State flag, state coat of arms and national anthem .

The first question was «Do you know the national anthem?»

YES- 96 % not to the end- 4 %

It's very nice

The next symbol of each country is the flag. Russian flag has a long history.Our flag is three-colored: white, blue, red .Such flag was drawed by Peter I. Later, in the USSR we had the red flag, and since 1991 our flag is three- colored again. Our next question was «Do you know what color is the Russian flag?»

We got an exellent answer «Yes» - 100%

All pupils know it.

And the last symbol of the country is the Coat of Arms. This symbol has a long history too.Our Coat of Arms is the two-headed eagle. It is more than 400 years old. Here you can see the history of the Russian Coat of Arms

Since 1993 we have a new coat of arms. His author is E. Ukhalev.

Our next question was

« Do you know how is the Russian coat of arms?»

The answer was wonderfull – yes-100%

All our pupils know it. It's very nice.

Each nationality has its own character traits. Russians are impressed by size and numbers .Russians think and act big. Russians think about themselves as members of a community rather as individuals. Nature has not been kind to Russia . Cruel climate, harsh history outlook on life made Russians value stability, social order and predictability and to avoid risk

The Moscow Kremlin with the Red Square are the oldest symbols of our country.The Kremlin — the oldest historical and architectural centre — is the heart of Moscow. At first the Kremlin was a wooden fort. Under Dmitry Donskoy the Kremlin was built of white stone.

The Red Square is the heart of Moscow. It was formed in the 15th century and named "the Red Square" because of its beauty (at that time "red" meant "beautiful").

One of the best-known picture galleries in Russia and perhaps in the world is the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow

St. Petersburg is the second Russia's largest city. St. Petersburg, one of' the most beautiful cities of Europe, has played an important role in Russian history. It was founded by Peter I in 1703.

The Hermitage or the Winter the Palace is the unique museum. It was established by Catherine II in 1764. The State Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg is the largest museum and picture gallery in Russia.

We are proud of the deepest and the largest lake in the world the Baikal-lake. It's connected with many legends. It’s the oldest lake in the world - its age is about 25-30 million years. Scientists estimated that more than 1500 life forms live in and around this lake, which can be found nowhere else on Earth. It’s the world's largest reservoir of drinking water.

It is necessary to say that great contribution to the development of the world science and culture, literature, music and painting was made by the Russian people. The names of Russian scientists and writers, poets, composers and painters are world-famous - Pushkin, Lermontov, Chehov, Levitan. This chain can be endless.

In conclusion we can say our teens are patriotic.

Our teens knew the main symbols of our country: Flag, coats of arms and national anthem. They love Russia, are proud of its culture, nature and famous people, can tell about its sights,they try to follow its traditions. We hope young generation make our country strong.
