This is the story divided into parts. The parts are mixed. Will you help me to make up the story?

(5-7 min for a group task) 2 groups-7 pupils

The 1st part of the story

The first Halloween was celebrated many centuries ago in Ireland and Scotland.

It was celebrated by Celtic priests called druids

They were afraid of the witches

That’s why they wanted to hide themselves and put on costumes and painted their faces.

They wanted to deceive the Evil spirits.

Moreover they put presents and sweets near the doors for the witches.

Later people started to say “Trick or treat”.

The 2nd part of the story

Halloween was brought to America by immigrants from Ireland and Scotland.

The symbol was a Pumpkin with holes in the form of eyes, nose and mouth in it.

It was put onto the windowsills in the houses.

At first, Halloween was celebrated mostly by children.

They dressed very strangely, visited houses and asked for sweets.

They said “Trick or treat” and people gave them sweets and fruit.

Nowadays Americans go together out on the 31st of October

They are dressed up and have lanterns in their hands. The festival lasts till early morning

Pupils read the story.

Teacher 1 We haven’t seen each other for a long time! Let’s have a small concert! The best performer will get a prize! Who will be the 1st to recite a poem? Let’s choose.

One little, two little, three little witches

Four little, five little, six little witches

Seven little, eight little, nine little witches

Ten little witches in the sky!

Ten little, nine little, eight little witches

Seven little, six little, five little witches

Four little, three little, two little witches

One little witch! Bye-bye!

(Poems previously leant by heart)

Pupil-1

It’s Halloween! It’s Halloween

The moon is full and bright

And we shall see what can’t be seen

On any other night

Pupil-2

In masks old ghosts we haunt the streets

And knock the doors for trick and treat

Tonight we are the king and queen

For oh tonight is Halloween!

Pupil-3

Trick or treat, trick or treat

Give us something good to eat

Give us candy, give us cake

Give us something sweet to take

Pupil-4

Give us cookies, fruit and gum

Hurry up and give us some

You had better do it quick

Or we’ll surely play a trick

Pupil-5

Sometimes big and sometimes small

But always round and yellow

When children make my famous grin

Then I am a scary fellow

Pupils-6-7

Halloween on Parade

Halloween on Parade

You can be anything you wanna be

When Halloween’s on Parade

You can be something goofy

Like an old time movie star

A doctor,

A nurse or a fire chief

A driver in a racing car.

You can be a crazy creature

From way out of space

Or a character from a cartoon show

With a smile upon your face.

(Teacher 1 and Teacher 2 discuss )

Teacher 2 Well done! And the winner is-…..!!!Congratulations!

Teacher 1 I am hungry and thirsty. Shall we make a magic drink?!

(Brings some drink in a bowl)

Help me to make it magic, my friends!

I know some special spell words:

Ala-ka-za-ma-ka-zu” all together “Ala-ka-za-ma-ka-zu”

(Time for a drink)

Teacher 1 It’s high time to retell stories. Take your seats around the Pumpkin and tell your stories in a whisper.

(Pupils tell their stories)

Pupil-1

It was in Scotland in 1650. The crazy old man his name was Lord Centerville built a castle and called it “The Castle of Lord Centerville”. They said that that crazy man had killed his wife, he strangled her. And after it he was gone. After his disappearance his castle became empty and nobody wanted to buy it, because they said that there were ghosts in it.

300 years later a rich American bought this castle. He wanted to have a hotel instead. The owner spent only one night in it and got crazy and his hair turned grey. Nobody knew what frightened him. The castle is still in its place but no one visits it.

Pupil-2 Pupil-3 Pupil-4 tell their stories

(Teacher 1 and Teacher 2 discuss )

Teacher 2 We enjoyed all the stories! And the first prize this year goes to……..Congratulations!

Teacher 1Thank you for coming! See you next year!
