Цель: способствовать формированию коммуникативной и социокультурной компетентностей в предметной области «Английский язык» при повторении и обобщении материала по теме «Достопримечательности Лондона».

Задачи:

Активизировать лексические навыки по данной тематике.

Развивать навыки устной речи на основе информации о Лондоне, навыки использования изученной лексики на практике, аудиальный слух, умение реагировать на ситуацию общения, навыки использования языковой догадки, память, внимание, логическое мышление.

Воспитывать интерес к изучению английского языка, уважительное отношение к культуре и истории страны, язык которой изучается.

Тип урока: повторительно-обобщающий по теме «Английский – международный язык»

Now you know the topic of today’s lesson. We should choose the way of travelling to get to London. Travelling has always been a part of people’s education. It teaches people about art and culture. It teaches them to be understanding. You can also improve your knowledge of foreign languages. There are a lot of ways of travelling, look at the slide and name them.

P1: So let’s go by plane because it’s very convenient for us.

Guide. Hello! Welcome in London, the capital of Great Britain. My name is Jully. I’m going to be your guide and I’ll show you around the centre of London.

We’ll go by famous English double-decker, it will take us long and I’ll be able to tell you much about London. To begin with I’d like to say that London is the largest city in Europe. Over 7 million people live there. (Cлайд 4)

London is situated on the river Thames. It is the deepest river in Britain (Слайд 5)

The first stop is the Houses of Parliament. The houses of Parliament stand beside the River Thames. The country’s leaders speak in the Houses of Parliament.(Cлайд 6)

Pupil 1. Sorry to interrupt you, Jully. We studied the history of London before coming here. The Houses of Parliament were a royal palace. Now it is the seat of British Government. In 1834 the fire destroyed it. The new building was built in 1852. It contains 500 apartments. Among them are the Central Hall, the House of Lords, the House of Commons. If the British Flag is on the Tower it means that the Parliament is working at the moment.

Guide. Well done! I wonder what do you know about Big Ben? (Cлайд 7)

Pupil 2. Big Ben is the Biggest bell in the clock tower in Britain and one of the most famous clocks in the world. The clock has four faces and five big bells. The biggest bell is named after sir Benjamin Hall. The Clock Tower is over 100 metres high. The clock is huge. It weights 13 720 kilos. It is 7 metres in diameter and the minute hand is over 4 metres long.

Guide. Our next stop is Westminster Abbey. It is the traditional place of coronation for English monarchs. (Cлайд 8 )

Pupil 3. It is a royal church. Westminster Abbey is a symbol of English traditions. The coronation of nearly all English kings and queens has taken place here. Many of them are buried within the abbey. There are also the Graves of famous poets, writers and political leaders. Here you can see memorials to Newton, Darwin, Dickens and others. The last monarch coronated in the Abbey was present Queen Elizabeth II.

Guide. I’d like to draw your attention to the Tower of London. The Tower is very old. It has a long and cruel history. Today it’s a museum. (Cлайд 9)

Pupil 4. The Tower of London is very big castle. It is a very old place in London. It is 900 years old. In the early days of England the English kings lived in the Tower. It was a fortress, a royal palace. Later it was a prison where many people died. Black ravens had much food near the walls of the Tower in those days. Now it is a museum and a home for ravens. Many tourists from other countries come to see the Tower. The legend says: “London will be rich while raven live there”

Guide. Now if you look out of the windows you can see the famous Tower Bridge. Tower Bridge is one of the oldest and most beautiful bridges in London.Let’s listen and sing together a folk song about London Bridge. (Слайд 10)

Guide. It was nice to sing with you. In good moods we have come to the home of the Queen of England. (Слайд 11)

Pupil 5. Buckingham Palace is the London home of the Queen and her family. When the flag is flying on the top she is at home. There are 600 rooms in Buckingham Palace. It has a swimming pool, a ballroom, a garden and a cinema. There are always guards outside the palace. They wear red uniforms. Changing of the guards is a great tourists attraction. It happens every morning and lasts about thirty minutes.

Guide. Now we pass famous London Parks. Londoners can walk and jog in the park, eat their sandwiches, talk, sunbathe, read books and enjoy music or ride horses. (Слайд 12)

Pupil 6. There are 8 parks in London: 4 outside London and 4 inside London. Hyde park is the biggest one. There is a place called the Speaker’s Corner in the park. On Sunday mornings anyone can speak about anything he or she believes to be important. Londoners love their parks and are proud of them.

Guide. The last point of our sightseeing tour is Trafalgar Square. Trafalgar Square is the geographical centre of the British capital. The square was named "Trafalgar" in the honor of Admiral Nelson's victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.Look! Trafalgar Square is full of tourists. They take photos, walk around the square and enjoy the sights. You may take photos as well. (Cлайд 13) In December there is a colourful 50-metre Christsmas tree in the centre of the square. Pupil 7. We can see it. Trafalgar Square is a popular place for people to meet. In the middle of the square there is Nelson’s Column which is 51-metre high. To the left there is the National gallery. It has a fine of European paintings. Trafalgar Square is the heart of modern London. It was named in memory of the victory of the English Fleet over the French in the battle of Trafalgar under the command of admiral Nelson, who lost his life in that battle. He defeated the French at the battle of Trafalgar. Four bronze lions look at the square from the monument.

Guide. Dear pupils, our tour is over. It was nice to have a trip with you. Share your emotions with one another.
