Тема:Внешность. Распорядок дня.

Who Lives in Fairy Tales

Topic:What do they look like? How do they live? /Appearance. Daily Routine/

Aim: to practice words on the topics in oral speech; to discuss the problems of daily routine.

Starting the lesson.

Good morning, children. You look nice today. And the weather is nice today, isn’t it?

Yes, it’s lovely. It’s warm and sunny today.

Warming up. The pupil on duty answers the children’s questions about the weather, the season.

Speaking practice. T: A postman gave me a letter. There is no address on the envelope. But look at it! There is a riddle on it.

(the pupil on duty reads the riddle – the letter is for today’s birthday girl:

To: a girl with an oval face, blue eyes, a straight nose, etc.

There is a greeting card in the letter. The children try to guess who it is for. Then they congratulate the girl.

Students: Be healthy, wealthy and wise!)

Phonetic exercises. What rules will help her and us be healthy?

Students (one after another and all together):

Early to bed, early to rise

Makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.

Mind the clock and keep the rule:

Try to come on time to school.

Don’t run across the road, stop and look!

Use your eyes, use your ears and then use your feet!

Teacher: …….and you will be healthy, safe and sound.

So, what will we speak about today? Look at the pictures on the board and say.

Students: We’ll speak about faces, about appearance.

T: What do we see with? Ss: We see with our eyes.

T: What do we hear with? Ss: We see with our ears.

T: What do we smell with? Ss: We see with our nose.

T: What do we eat with? Ss: We see with our mouth.

Let’srevise the words! Look at the pictures. What kinds of eyes can you see (are there?)

Make pairs of words/match the words using the table:

Ss: fair hair, long eyelashes, a round face, etc.

T: now find and show faces with:

A wrinkled forehead, pale cheeks, a turned up nose, round eyes, short hair, two chins, one tooth, strong teeth, long hair.

(The children take turns to work at the blackboard using the pictures).

T: Mind: This man (woman, child) has got …. BUT! These men (women, children) have got ….

New words: bald, a hairdo, a forelock, hooked, attractive.

T: So, do you remember the plural of the words …?

T:a man - Student - men /a woman- women, a child – children, a tooth – teeth, a foot - feet/

Your homework was to draw and describe an alien. Now one of you will describe his picture. Which alien is it? Try and guess.

Handwork in pairs. ‘Make a face!’ The children are given paper bags with sets of cut out pictures of eyes, noses, mouths, etc. The task is to make faces according to the descriptions attached, for example:

This is an oval face with thin brown eyebrows, round blue eyes, rosy cheeks and a red mouth. It’s neither big nor small. The hair is short, black. The ears are small. Is it a boy or a girl? Do you like this face?

The students try and work as fast as possible.

T: Just before we start let’s revise our rules:

work together, speak English, speak in a low voice, be quick!

Then the children check each other. Enjoy other faces (We’ve got a picture gallery!)

Let’s have a rest! Sing a song and dance! (‘I have a body’ from ‘Game Songs’ to ‘Enjoy English 1’)

T: - So, when is a face nice? Can you tell us? (on the blackboard:always/ often/ sometimes/ never)

Ss: - When we live a healthy life, go to bed in time, get up at seven…

T: - Do you always go to bed in time? – No.

What do you say to your Mum then? - I want to play.

Let us see how it happens.

(The students reproduce a dialogue on behalf of different characters, for example- Mother Kanga and her son Roo, then some other characters by heart).

(During this work the other children are busy with the task to draw the time on Cards according to the given instructions: ‘It’s a quarter to ten’)

T: What mark would you like to give to these children?

Ch: Excellent, Very good, good, Not bad.

T: Mother says she will tell Roo about Hobbit (or another fairy tale character). Can you tell us about Hobbit? Who is he?

Ss: He looks like a man, but he is neither a man, nor an animal.

(a card with ‘’neither ….nor…’ is up on the board)

T:Describe Hobbit, please. (a student describes the character).

A ball game / T – Ss/:

T:How does Hobbit live? -- THE students translate from Russian into English the expressions from the text about Hobbit’s daily routine

Is Hobbit healthy? – No, he must go to the doctor.

(The students reproduce the dialogue ‘At the Doctor’s’ from workbook).

T: Your task was to write the doctor’s advice and to add your words. So, what else can you advise? – (the students give their advice about food, sports, walks, good habits.)

/New words:advice, to advise, else, habits./

T: What bad habits has Hobbit got?

What bad habits have you got? Ss: I don’t … I mustn’t … I should give up…

Now praise yourselves.- name your good habits. /I take vitamins, do sports, get up at 7, study well, etc./

Let’s draw a conclusion. We can describe any face and we can say what we must or mustn’t do to look attractive and feel healthy. The aim of our lesson was to prove it, - and we managed to do it.
