Work in pairs. Take turns to persuade your friend to visit the town you see in the pictures.

Read the text below. Pay attention to the underlined words.

Living in such a big and bustling city as Donetsk you may get sick and tired of extremely busy and hurry-scurry urban lifestyle. In order to have a rest, to relax a little bit and to enjoy picturesque and peaceful countryside you are welcome to Dokuchayevsk which is not far from Donetsk. It will take you about half an hour to get there but, beyond all doubt, this small town is worth visiting it. Of course, there are not so many interesting places you can go sightseeing to, but the general view of the town is ideal for those in search of peace and quiet.

The streets are rather broad and lined-up with bird-cherry-, chestnut- and linden- trees which fill the air withawesome smell, really “making spirits bright”.

Lots of flower-beds make the town blossom almost all year round. Lilac, jasmine and tulips in spring, roses and zinnias in summer and multi-coloured chrysanthemums in autumn and exotic plants of the greenhouse in winter are in the list of favourites among the residents of the town.

You can spend a couple of days, exploring famous caves, taking photos of the Valley of Names, climbing rocks, picnicking in the wild strawberry fields and doing what not.

But the visiting card of Dokuchayevsk is our famous zoo which is called “The Swan Lake”.

What place would you choose to spend a weekend with your family? It is difficult to find a place, which can be interesting for each member of the family.  Our zoois aimed atpeople of all ages, so it is not surprising that many families from Donetsk, Makeyevka, Gorlovka and other cities of our region cannot find a better place to switch off completely. The zoo of Dokuchayevsk is a favourite place to spend time together.A variety of animals will please not only children, but also adults.

The animals live in specially created habitat conditions that are as close to natural as possible. While visiting the zoo, you can watch the life of peacocks, mandarin ducks, horses, ponies, llamas, deer, crocodiles, swans and other representatives of the animal world.

Today, there are already more than a hundred species of animals, seven of which are listed in the Red Book. The Botanical garden and the terrarium are up to everybody’s taste - both adults and children!

Besides you can take a ride on a horse or a pony,visit the room of laughter, the slide-trampoline “Shrek”, the children's playroom “Avatar, help yourself to some candy floss.Also on the territory of the zoo there is a pneumatic shooting gallery, in which you cannot just shoot, but also get a good prize for accurate shooting!Moreover, there is a children's railway, along which Seven Wonders of the World are located.

We could tell a lot about the Dokuchayevsk Zoo, but we’d rather recommend you to spend your weekend in this wonderful place. And you’ll keep returning to the small town of Dokuchayevsk for the rest of your life.

Every year on the 9^th of May people bring lots of flowers to the monument which is situated in the centre of Dokuchayevsk (a town in Donetsk People’s Republik). In such a way people want to honour their townsman– the Hero of the Soviet Union – Petr Yakovlevich Likholetov.
During the Great Patriotic War he was one of the best pilots who took part in 78 air battles and personally took out19 fascist aircrafts. His friends said that he was a real master of high pilotage and proved his surname which means “the one who fliesfamously”. He had a sense of his plane, the air, the flight. In spring of 1942 his plane was already decorated with 10 stars as he had repelledthe attack of 40 fascist bombers.
The most difficult air battle he had at the end of March 1942 when a group of “Messers” took out his partners. Though he managed to take out two “Me-109” and land his plane safely, the battle was worth “ three years of the life” (as he told to his commander). After that battle his b ravery an courage were replaced by prudence and caution.
Later he took part in a great number of other battles and got lots of brilliant victories.For all he had done he was given the name of a Hero of the Soviet Union and awarded the Orders of Lenin (1944), the Red Banner (1942), the Great Patriotic War (1943), the Red Star (1942) and the medal “For the defense of Leningrad. In June of 1944 he was severely wounded and a year later he died. He was buried in Leningrad on the Memorial cemetry “Sosnovka”.
Being a legendary air fighter, Petr Yakovlevich had a wonderful hobby – he loved drawing and spent every spare minute with a pencil and a piece of paper. He loved the nature of his native land, the people, the towns and the cities – everything he called his Motherland. Who knows, may be he could become a great painter… But he chose the honourable duty of defending the land we now live on.
That’s why the greatful people of Dokuchayesk named a street after their famous townsman and bring lots of flowers to his monument.
