Lead-in activities:

1. Divide the students into pairs or small groups and ask them to brainstorm ways in which their own country has changed since the Victorian era. After a few minutes, have each group share their ideas with the class. Encourage the class to use English to describe the changes they've identified.

2. Give the students a list of chores that were common for women in the Victorian era, such as cooking, cleaning, and laundry. Ask them to imagine they are responsible for all of these tasks and to discuss in pairs or small groups how they would manage their time. Encourage the class to use English to describe their plans.

3. Play a game of "20 Questions" with the class, with a focus on the text. Think of a person, object, or concept related to the text and have the class ask yes or no questions to try and guess what it is. Encourage the class to use English to ask their questions.
