Aims:

Practical

to introduce and practice target vocabulary;

to practice in detailed reading;

develop group-working skills;

to develop speaking and listening skills;

to practice in word formation .

Educational:

•to develop friendly attitude to the environment, critical thinking, feeling of responsibility for the place where we live. Get acquainted with the term 3R”s

By the end of the lesson SWBAT:

to use vocabulary on the topic and

complete information table about ways of saving environment;

explain the meaning of the term3R’s

to express their ideas about the discussed problem.

PROCEDURE

I GREETING.

T:Hello, everybody. I hope you are well today, aren’t you?

II MOTIVATION. AIMS

Let’s start. Read the statement and say if you agree with it.

People create a lot of waste that can end up harming the environment

What do you think we are going to discuss today. Do you want to learn more about ways of helping environment? Let’s see what you already know

So, today at the lesson we’ll try to find out the answer to your question

III WARMING UPMatch the words to create the pairs

IV MAIN PART OF THE LESSON.

Eliciting.T: Where does rubbish come from? What do we throw away every day?Let’s imagine you are a seller. Describe what you do before selling a thing. Use all these things (the teacher gives pupils different kinds of wrapping: paper, plastic bags, and carriers). What will happen to all these wrappings after you have brought the thing home?

What problem can they cause?

Pupils discuss in pairs and share their opinions.

VOCABULARY PRACTICE

T:Useless things which we throw away have a lot of names:

LITTER, RUBBISH, GARBAGE, WASTES, TRASH and they all appear on a DUMP

Look at the pie chart and comment on it. What makes up our rubbish?

Students give their suggestions.

T:- Do you know what does the definition «Tree R’s» means? People all over the world often speak about the «Tree R’s». This sign stays for three words: REUSE,REDUCE,RECYCLE

Let’s listen to the song and you will be able to speak about some simple ways of solving the environmental problems. While listening try to write down some of them. You may use modal verbs CAN, MUST, SHOULD.

GROUP WORK. Pupils listen to the song and write down:

We must turn off the light/TV when we don’t use them.

We can use rechargeable batteries;

We can take shorter showers ;

We can use old newspapers as wrapping paper;

We can donate old clothes;

We can help our family start a garden;

We must close the door;

We can compost old food.

After listening pupils read their sentences and express their opinions:

VI READING

Reading for gap filling. Students work in groups and fill in the gaps. Then groups present their answers.

Listening for checking.

Explaining new vocabulary. Matching words with their definitions.

Students complete the table and read their suggestions.
