Forgotten Hero of the Great Patriotic War

(Nikolai Vasilyevich Shapkin (10.03.1923-1945))

Born on March 10, 1923 in the village of Red Desert now Sergach district of Nizhny Novgorod region in the family farmer. Russian.

By May 1944 Shapkin made 120 successful combat missions for the exploration of naval bases and marine communications enemy.

For exemplary performance of command assignments at the front of the struggle against German fascism and for displaying courage and heroism, by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet on July 22, 1944 Lieutenant Shapkina Nikolai Vasilyevich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union and the Order of Lenin and medal "Gold Star" ( number 4009).

After receiving the highest award of the Motherland NV Shapkin continued to fight with the enemy.
