T-When people think of a town or a city, they picture in their mind different things. What do you imagine when you think of your native town?

shops because we buy a lot of different things in shops and supermarkets

places of culture because there are many clubs, cinema, and institutes in our town

streets and squares because I like the street where I was born and live now

T-All right, let’s start our excursion

Let me introduce you our guides. Before listening to their reports I’d like you to do some phonetic drill. Let’s pronounce correctly the words you need to understand our excursion. Listen and repeat after me: (на доске слова с транскрипций и переводом)

Guide-1-Alekseevka lies on both banks of the river Tikhaya Sosna.

Actually the ancestors of contemporary citizens of Alekseevka first settled in this area in the 18^th century.

The town was names Alekseevka after Aleksei Cherkasski, its first owner.

1799. There were 5000 yards with the population of 23000 people in sloboda. It covered the territory of 63000 tithe of the land. Local peasants had the following crafts: carpentry, shoemaking craft, blacksmith work, painting craft. There was a leather factory in the settlement.

Little by little sloboda turned into spiritual center

Guide-2 - Alekseevka is proud of its famous people. Nikolai Stankevich was a public figure, a philosopher and a poet. He was born in Uderevka. Among Stankevich’s literary works there are a few verses dedicated to Moscow and historical tragedy called Vasili Shuiski. Nowadays “Uderevski Listopad” is held in his family estate Uderevka. Another well-known person is Daniil Bokarev. He invented the method of obtaining oil from sunflower seeds. At present there is a monument to Bokarev in the center of the town. Dmitri Usatov was born in Alekseevka in 1847. Later he became a teacher of a famous opera-singer Fedor Shalyapin. Andrei Pavlovich Kirilenko was a soviet statesman from the start to the end of the Cold War.

By the end of the 19^th century Alekseevka was not only spiritual but also administrative and cultural center. There were five churches, three schools, hospital, leather and oil-pressing factories in sloboda.

World War II known in Russia as Patriotic War left the town in ruins. Alekseevka was kept by the Germans invaders. The resistance of the enemy was broken by the 52^nd motorized rifle. More than 4000 enemy soldiers and officers were imprisoned. The invaders destroyed hospital, vocational school, the house of culture. Our countrymen Shaposhnikov, Sobina, Ruban were honored the title of the hero of the Soviet Union. It took seven years to restore the town industry.

Alekseevka today has a population of 39000 people. It covers the territory of 17000 hectares. It is a district center.

This is the town center. This is the outskirt. This is how citizens spend their free time.

Alekseevka is a developed and industrial town with its big and middle-size companies: Alekseevka Milk Canning Plant, Alekseevka Sugar Factory, EFKO, widely known for its products not only all over the country but even abroad.

Every year housing complexes with playgrounds for children and facilities for leisure in parks are built.

Almost the 3d of Alekseevka population are young people. The largest educational institute is Alekseevka branch Belgorod State University.

Town citizens as well as its guests can visit local museum, the house of culture, cinema house, libraries, different sport centers “Nevski”, “Olimp”, “Yunost”, “Volna”.
