Printer

A printer (born Printer, from print - print) is an external peripheral device of a computer designed to output textual or graphical information stored in a computer onto a solid physical medium, usually paper or plastic film, in small runs (from one to hundreds) without create a print form.

These printers are different from printing equipment and risography, which at the expense of the printing form is faster and cheaper in large print runs (hundreds or more copies). A printer is a high-tech printing device designed primarily for working with a computer. The printer is designed to convert information stored in a computing device from digital to analog form for an accessible understanding of this information by the user and its subsequent long-term storage.

Other printing devices, such as multifunction devices (MFPs), were also distributed, in which the functions of a printer, a scanner, a copier and a fax machine are combined in one device. Such a combination is rational from the technical and economic side, as well as convenient in operation. A specialized kind of printer is a plotter.

Chamomile printer

Chamomile printers are akin to typewriters. At one time, such printers were widely distributed in the 50s and 60s of the 20th century, but with the advent of more high-speed matrix impact machines, as well as laser printers, the chamomile ones almost disappeared, and now this printing method is used only in electronic and mechanical typewriters.

The printing mechanism is quite simple. In mechanical typewriters, each key is connected to a specific lever, at the end of which is the corresponding letter. When you press the key, the matrix is ​​struck on the paper through the ink ribbon. In later typewriters, instead of a set of levers, one wheel in the form of a daisy is used, at the ends of the petals of which are made matrixes of letters, numbers and other symbols, one or two per petal. Chamomile is put on a special wheel. The wheel through the drive is connected to a stepper motor. Usually, this entire mechanism, together with the ribbon winding engine, ink cartridge and correction tape, is performed on the carriage. When you turn on the machine is the initial positioning of the wheel. This is a very important moment in the work of the machine, since from the initial position there is a reading of each next letter. Usually for positioning, the wheel is scrolled a full turn and locked mechanically. After this, the printing process is very simple.The user presses a key. The processor handles the press and counts how many steps you need to do to the next letter. After that, the stepping motor turns the wheel and stops it on the desired letter. An electromagnetic hammer is used to strike a chamomile petal. A petal strikes the paper through the ribbon.

The carriage is placed perpendicular to the cylindrical shaft, through which paper is fed. The carriage moves along the shaft. Thus each next letter in a line is formed. After that, the conventional ribbon is replaced with a correction tape, for example, by raising the carriage mechanism or lifting the tensioned correction tape. After that, the letter that needs to be corrected is printed again, but through the correction tape.

Drum printer

Drum type printers have a very high speed, printing up to 600 lines per minute. In them, instead of the carriage moving along the paper feed shaft, the drum is made up of disks, on the end surface of which there are lettered matrices, on the entire width of the paper. Behind the paper at the level of the drum there is a row of hammers driven by electromagnets. The drum rotates at high speed, but at the moment the matrices of necessary letters pass by the ink ribbon, the hammers of the corresponding familiarity come forward, pressing the paper through the ink ribbon to the matrices on the drum, and on the paper there are letter imprints from the drum.

Behind the paper at the level of the drum there is a row of hammers driven by electromagnets. The drum rotates at high speed, but at the moment the matrices of necessary letters pass by the ink ribbon, the hammers of the corresponding familiarity come forward, pressing the paper through the ink ribbon to the matrices on the drum, and on the paper there are letter imprints from the drum. In one revolution of the drum, the entire line is printed, and the paper is moved to print the next line. Due to the lack of accuracy of the time of impact, such printers gave the characteristic appearance of the "dancing" in the string of letters.
