Multilingualism is the key to success.

I chose this theme because I think so. Voltaire said: “Knowing many languages means having many keys to one lock”. These are wise words and I‘ll try to give evidence.Learning languages is very important nowadays in many reasons.

First, a person who knows more than one language is able to earn more because of various job opportunities in different countries. No matter what job you’ve chosen, speaking a foreign language gives you a real advantage.Youcan work successfully with more people and in more places than someone who knows only one language.  Hotel managers, journalists, nurses, doctors, police officers and others need to speak more than one language to do their jobs well. Knowing more than one language enhances opportunities in government, business, law, medicine and health care, teaching, technology, the military, communications, industry, social service, and marketing. Employers of prestigious organizations always choose someone who knows many languages, because they work around the world with people speaking different languages.

Second, if the person is multilingual, he feels no difficulty when he travels throughout the world, knows more information about different countries and their cultures, communicates with people in their own language in the transport, restaurants, hotels, stations etc. I think you show respect to the locals by knowing their language and they may be friendlier to you.

Third, It is also a good opportunity to have friends all over the world, chat with them on the Internet, Skype. Friendship is very important nowadays.

Our president Nursultan Abishevich Nazarbayev said: “Kazakhstan should be perceived worldwide as a highly educated country whose nation can use three languages. They are Kazakh language which is the state one, Russian language as the language of international communication and English which is the language of successful integration into global economy”. All languages have the one goal which is communication. The state has begun to implement multilingualism in education and a new generation of Kazakhstani people has the opportunity to possess three languages. Learning the Kazakh language will always be a priority, it is a state necessity, a manifestation of patriotism, a means of national identification. The need for English is a global trend (for example,When Swedish, German or even Japanese scientists want to inform their foreign colleagues about their discoveries or share interesting results, they publish scientific articles in journals in English). Knowing Russian language is our wealth. It will be a great advantage for us, if we are fluent in Kazakh, Russian, English language. So we can say that in Kazakhstan the bilingual situation has already formed and there is a tendency of polylingual educations. Education should become competitive, high-quality, so the graduates of our schools could easily continue their education in foreign universities. There are no civilized states where only one nation lives, my country isn’texception. The formation of multilingualism is essential for the normal functioning of any multinational state. Multilingualism in independent Kazakhstan is a concept aimed at further strengthening of the state; its potential. It has become so important for everyone to be bilingual.

I’m proud of knowing four languages and every time tell my son and mystudents to learn languages for our country, for our future, to aspireto self-development and self-improvement and consciously understand the need of knowing many languages.Multilingualism is the imperative of the times, the way to the future. It is necessary forformations competitive specialists, sociable positive personality, capable of active and effective the life in a multinational and multicultural environment with a developed understanding and respect for other cultures, the ability to live in peace and harmony.
