1. Good afternoon! Today we`re going to do the quiz and now you should guess the topic of our conversation. You should identify the word according its definition.

BOOKS OR OTHER PRINTED INFORMATION ABOUT A SUBJECT .And the word is – LITERATURE.

1. Ok, now it`s time to begin our competition. The first task is to make up as many words as you can out of LITERATURE. You`ve got 5 minutes to do the task. (possible answers: rat, rare, liter, later, late, tree, litter, letter…).

2. Well done! At this time you`ll have to answer some questions:

1. How old were you when you began reading? ( I was…)

2. How much time do you usually spend on reading every day? (I usually spend…)

3. How many books have you got at home? (I`ve got…)

4. Do you do any extra reading? (Yes, I do)

5. Do you prefer reading books or magazines? (I prefer reading…)

1. The next task is to prove that READING IS INTERESTING AND USEFUL.Comment on the statement, please. You`ve got 3 minutes to discuss the ideas in your groups. (possible answers:

1. Books help us to solve the problems of our life.

2. We find out a lot of new facts about people, countries, lands.

3. Reading books is a popular hobby.

1. Well, I`m sure you know different types of books. Now you`ll have to name the types of books. You`ve got 3 minutes to get ready. (possible answers: a travel book, love story, autobiography, biography, detective story, folktale, romance, fairy tale, adventure story, science fiction, horror story, fantasy, novel, humorous story, historical novel…)

2. No doubt that people of different ages like fairy tales. Now I`m going to give a brief description of a fairy tale and you will guess it. Are you ready to start?

1. This story is about three brothers. They wanted to build three houses. The Wolf destroyed two of them. (“Three little pigs”)

2. The girl wanted to visit her grandmother but she had many problems on hr way. The hunters helped her to see her granny. (“Little red riding hood”)

3. This beautiful girl lived in the water. She fell in love with the young man. She couldn`t live among people.(“Little Mermaid”)

4. The bear has a lot of friends. They live in the forest and the story tells us about their adventures.(“Winnie-the-Pooh”)

5. The fish could do everything the old man wanted her to do. But his wife wasn`t satisfied. Finally the old man and his wife lost everything. (“Golden Fish”)

6. The poor girl had no mother but she had a stepmother and two stepsisters. She was unhappy to work a lot. At the end of the story the prince married her. (“Cinderella”)

1. We`ve learnt a lot of poems while studying at school. It`s time to recite English poems and find out who can do it best of all. You`ve got 3 minutes to get ready.
