Some interesting ideas for the teachers of English.

Activities that focus on how we can involve English learners in interesting work and that may be carried out outside timetabled classes. All of them may be applied with some necessary modifications.

1). Сreating a wall newspaper “St.Valentines Day”.

Ask every student to write a Valentine card and stick all of them on the big Valentine wall newspaper in the form of the heart. Add a list of the phrase “I love you” in different languages. Working this way the students use language creatively!

2). Сreating a handmade book of Picture Stories.

Ask the students to bring interesting photos. Invent an interesting title, describe the photo and develop the text. The enjoyable atmosphere helps every student to write a story. Pictures act as a great trigger for creativity in class. Sometimes it is not what we expect.

3). Сreating a handmade book of short stories (for the April,1 Day) “Funny stories from our life”.

Ask everybody to describe one funny event from his own life. Then combine all of them together. Аdd one funny picture to each story! They also may be read aloud to the whole class.

4). Teamwork presentation “Our hobbies”.

Ask everybody to make one slide about his hobbies and favorite activities (add photos, Diplomas, etc.) and descriptions of hobbies. Then combine all slides together! To reduce megabytes of the presentation compress it on-line, using youcompress.сom. Share it with others in VK social network!

5). Recording video. (Topic “My city”)

Work in pairs. Make up small dialogues in pairs about the city, its places of interest. Record video. Combine everything on-line, using, for example Clideo.comand adding the sights of the city. Share it with others in VK social network!

6). Making a “Poets’ Corner” in the classroom.

Ask students to translate different poems from English into Russian and stick their works in the “Poets Corner”. Add pictures of the famous English poets.

7). Recording video “Tongue twisters competition”.

Ask еасh student to pronounce 1-2 different tongue twisters. Record video. Combine everything on-line, using, for example Clideo.com. Share it with others in VK social network!

You may choose from:

-Two tiny tigers take two taxis to town.

-I saw a kitten eating chicken in the kitchen.

-How many cookies could a good cook cook, if a good cook could cook cookies?

-The great Greek grape growers grow great Greek grapes.

-We surely shall see the sun shine soon.

-Mary Mac's mother making Mary Mac marry me.

-She sells sea shells at the sea-shore. The sells she sells are the sea-shore shells, I am sure.

-Elizabeth’s birthday is on the third Thursday of this month.

-I wish I were what I was when I wished I were what I am.

-Whether the weather is cold. Whether the weather is hot. Well weather the weather, whatever the weather, whether we like it or not.

8). Make slideshow of drawings “The sights of London and Washington”.

Ask students to draw different pictures “The sights of London and Washington” at home. Then the photos of their works transform into a slideshow! Share it with others in VK social network!

9). Recording video “Music Box”.

Sing one short song with each group of students. Record video. Combine videos all together. Share it with others in VK social network!

10). Make a colorful box for Valentines, written in English and collect creative Valentines!

11). Make the exhibition of brochures (booklets) in English in the classroom. (Topic “My city”)

Most students are talented at one thing or another. Take your time to get to know them and discover what these talents are! This will help to discover new ways of teaching them!
