Many people discuss this question often: is the life better in a city or in the village? Well, my family used to live in the country before and I had really interesting life. Few years ago we (1)……. to the city and now I see many advantages and disadvantages of these lifestyles.
To begin with, life in the
country gives you (2)……. to eat fresh fruit and vegetables, you can pick up mushrooms and berries in the forest. In fact, I went to the forest every year and our fridge was always full of different natural products.
Another important thing is fresh air. I don’t have any problems with my health, but many people come to the village in summer. Fresh air, clear water, forest, river can help you to (3)…… and relax. In the village we all know each other. Imagine you cannot (4)……… new friends, meet new people and so on. Despite this, my neighbours were really helpful.
A
city is another story because every day you can see new people. You can also have more possibilities for entertainment after school: dancing classes, (5) …….., photo lessons and so on. All the shops, schools and libraries are close at hand. You take a bus or metro and in few minutes you are there. In a (6)…….. you need first travel by train to reach the city.
As you can see both lifestyles have pros and cons. I like the life in the city more. Here I am trying to do what I want and what I like. But in summer I like to visit my grandparents and stay in the village for few weeks. I think person who has never got this (7)……… will never understand this point of view.

Exercise 3. Read the text. Add some ideas from the text to complete the table from ex.1

*Today people all over the world are moving out of small villages to go and live in big, noisy cities. They are moving from the peaceful hills, mountains, fields, rivers, and streams of the country-side to the busy world of streets, buildings, traffic, and crowds. This movement from rural to urban areas has been going on for over two hundred years.

*Living in a city has both advantages and disadvantages. One of the positive aspects is a chance to find work easier, and also there is a choice of public transport, so you don't need to own a car. Also there are a lot of interesting things to do and places to see. For example, you can eat in good restaurants, visit museums, and go to the theatre and to concerts. What is more, when you want to relax, you can usually find a park where you can feed the ducks or just sit on a park bench and read a book. All in all, city life is full of bustle and variety and you need never feel bored.

*However, there are certain drawbacks of living in the city. For a start, unless your job is very well-paid, you will not be able to afford many of the things that there are to do, because living in a city is often very expensive. It is particularly difficult to find good, cheap accommodation. What is more, public transport is sometimes crowded and dirty, particularly in the rush hour, and even the parks can be crowded, especially on Sundays when it seems that every city-dweller is looking for some open space and green grass. Finally, despite all the crowds, it is still possible to feel very lonely in a city.

* In a nutshell, I think that city life can be particularly appealing to young people, who like the excitement of the city and don't mind the noise and pollution. However, many people, when they get older, and especially when they have young children, often prefer the peace and fresh air of the countryside.

!!! Work in pairs. Summary (complete using ideas from the text)
1. A city is a …...
2. Life in the city is …… while life in the country ……...
