Hello,.. Such a surprise to see you a computer club. As far as I remember, you had no interest in computer games.

Hi, … I’m not interested in them at all. But I had to go to the club, because for my exam I need a book, which I couldn’t find anywhere: neither in our library nor in bookshops. I heard electronic library would help me.

Have you found the necessary book?

Yes, I have. It wasn’t difficult at all. But I can not concentrate on reading it.

Why, I wonder?

It is unusual for me to read a literary work on a computer screen. And to move the pages with the help of the mouse, not with fingers.

But electronic books are our future. Think about tons of paper we waste for printing books. If we keep them at home, our bookshelves get overloaded.

But electronic books are faceless. I like to keep books in my hands. I remember the cover of the book, the smell of the book, the pages with the beloved lines. I miss it.

You are too sentimental. We just get information from them and that’s all. We read a book only once and then put it aside forever.

How could you say so! I’ve got lots of favorite books, which I can reread many times. Perhaps electronic libraries are more convenient, but I prefer our real libraries with real books.

The situation “if you were going to spend the rest of your life on some other planet and could take only 5 books with you, which 5 would you choose? Explain why?

I’m sure all of you like reading and read a lot. But great literary works interest not only readers, but film makers as well. It’s an open secret, that there is a screen version of almost every famous story or novel. Do you happen firstly to read a book and then watch a screen version? Can you give some examples? (Gone with the wind, Harry Porter, Master and Margaret< Spartacus, etc.). Actually, reading a book and watching a film are not the same. What is the difference? Please tell me after watching this video fragment from a film “Proud and Prejudice”. Do you know who wrote this novel? (Jane Austen)

When you read a book, you make your own images of the characters. And your vision differs from what you later see on the screen. You can get disappointed.

Some passages or even pages can disappear in a film. You think they were important and miss them.

It’s easier to watch a film. And what we easily get, we easily forget.

Best works of literature are appreciated all over the world. For example, “War and Peace” by Tolstoy. The book is translated into many languages and there is not only our Russian screen version, but also, for instance, American. In what way is it different from our film? Please tell me after watching a fragment from American version.

American films always seem to be richer in colors
