"In October 2014 a new island "Yaya" appeared
in the Laptev Sea near the coast of Russia".

"Before I took part in the Expedition through the Arctic, I had lived by a schedule. In the Arctic I lost sense of time. Having 24 hours of sunlight we could start our hiking at what we thought was 3 PM but it was actually 3 AM.
Our entire being was focused on one thing: survival. That day or night (I can't say for sure) I was on polar bear watch while the others were sleeping. I didn't have to fall asleep so I looked outside for some fresh air and came face to face with an unexpected situation. Here and there loud bangs, smashes, cracks were heard, all the ice around was turning into the ocean of icy mess. Polar bears! They were here again although the season of their appearance hadn't come yet, their destroying power made us think of the dangerous approach. While I was hiding the scientific equipment under the shelter, a large icy rock fell down nearby, and a second, and a third, just in a few meters. How huge this "bear" was! That time I was able to escape from the tight "bear hug" Arctic greeted every newcomer with.
I grinned. Definitely, only polar explorers could nickname these killing icy rocks "polar bears". What an unpredictable and destructive arrival! Fortunately, all vital devices had been saved and I continued watching the dark velvet sky with sparkling and twinkling stars competing with the brightness of polar lights. Meteoric rains were not so rare here. Arctic... The word was so dear to my heart. Only 10 years had passed, but changes in my life were enormous.
It was 2015. I was an ordinary inhabitant of the planet Earth. Hot news blew up the Internet, the radio and TV: a global economic crisis, the Ukrainian military conflict, political restrictions and sanctions against Russia. Almost nobody paid attention to a small piece of news about a new-born island in the Laptev sea. If we had only known what consequences would have been! If only had we noticed, that our mother Earth had been trying to save us... Nonsense! We were too busy to realize the importance of this event. We couldn't believe that a tiny piece of land boastfully named "Yaya" would be a lifeboat for the whole humanity. Our thoughts and dreams were about wealth, profits, exchange rates. Poor creatures...
My memories were interrupted by the screams of funny lemmings, common for these arctic places. My friends wanted to chase and catch one to have it as a pet but then changed their minds. In this season young lemmings were aggressive and their adults were real predators. Life was so valuable in Arctic. We had learnt to appreciate it. Perhaps, it was too late.
The temperature outside was rising. Soon the ice around would turn into the viscous melted swill. Our movement would be impossible. It was time to set off. It was my duty to wake up my friends and not to miss the time when the expedition could go on exploring Arctic. Besides, the level of radiation was the lowest at that season. So our chances for survival were increasing.
Arctic... It was so severe, unapproachable, ruthless. It was a nostalgia tribute to give this name to Art-K2, the third planet in the system of Holly-On. It was the nearest and the most perspective planet, adopted to people from the Earth with the atmosphere, the water formula in the state of ice. The ice was not melting quickly under the rays of two hot suns, it was like in spring in the Earth. Unfortunately, neither cloudberries nor kamnelomka flowers would grow here. It was not our Earth. It was a weak replica. Both lemmings and polar foxes were not pretty animals, but dangerous two meter high monsters with disgusting feelers so far alike our lovely creatures.
We had lost our motherland. Her last present for us, miserable children, was the small island "Yaya" which happened to be a natural spaceship, Noah's Ark... Moreover, it was out mother Earth that had pushed this spaceship into the Universe in the direction to the planet Art-K2 after the global explosion, which completely ruined the third planet of the solar system.
...We had lost our beautiful planet. It happened occasionally, by no means, accidentally. And now we were fighting for survival, looking for any suitable place to live, trying to become adoptive children of any new planet. The Englishmen said:"He that will not hear mother, shall hear stepmother" . Arctic-2 was a stepmother teaching us toughly and roughly, adjusting to itself, corrupting our human nature. It didn't remind us of the Earth, our home that we hadn't managed to preserve... for ourselves... from ourselves.
We had destroyed the Earth and Arctic was destroying us. But we arepeople! And our human nature would remain unchangeable forever. We would never stop our resistance!..." - With these thoughts Paul waved his tail and went to wake up his guys. His polar bear watch was over.
