Let me check the presents: Who is absent today?

Introduction the theme and the aims of the lesson: (slide 1)

T.: The theme of our lesson is “The history of fashion”. We must to study the basic periods of forming the fashion, study the new words, answer the question “What is fashion” and make the task for fastening the theme.

Explanation of the new material

Before we starting, let’s to work out some special words: read and translate them. (slide 2)

So let’s we start.

The notion of clothing. Clothing is considered to be one of the basic necessities of our life. Originally we clothed ourselves for protection from the natural element. We began to wear clothes to make ourselves more appealing to others, to help us to feel better about ourselves, to decorate and communicate. (slide 3)

The history of fashion is as old as the history of costume. People’s clothes weren’t only their cover, but their symbol. Even an amulet was a piece of clothes because it was like a bridge between a bare human body and surrounding world. What a person chooses to wear can reflect the person’s personality or likes. (slide 4)

Since the first people put on the first pieces of clothing the changes of clothes begins. On the picture you can see the first man from the Stone Age. Everything he wore it was the piece of fur or animal skin. (slide 5)

From age to age clothes made grate changes. And as you see it was quite long period from the era of knight to our days. (slide 6)

And at last in the 19^th century the first fashion designer is appeared. It was Charles Frederic Worth. He was not only a dressmaker but the first fashion designer. Before he created a house of fashion in Paris. Worth made designs of court clothes. Worth’s success was such that he was able to dictate to his customers what they should wear. The term couturier was in fact first created in order to describe him. Since that period the term “fashion” came to people’s life. (slide 7)

And until 1900 women wore long dresses and corsets. In the 20^th century the development of modern fashion begins: a shortening of clothes, pants appeared. (slide 8)

And now I’d like to ask to help me some girls and represent the fashion styles of different years. (slide 9)

S 1: 1920-1930. Women put on men’s suits, cut the length of dresses and looked like men. Marlene Dietrich is a bright example of that period in fashion. The main features of the 20th-30th are: V - figurative cut, a long thread of pearls, a skin of foxes on naked shoulders, stockings in a grid, dark make-up and bright red lipstick. All these things made a woman to look fatal. (slide 10)

S 2: 1940-1950. Fashion includes dresses with a slender waist which emphasize feminine figure, fluffy skirts below knees, long gloves, sunglasses and high heeled shoes. (slide 11)

1960. New trend in fashion appeared. Good taste is a leading feature of this period: fancy suits, nylon shirts with narrow collar, thin tie, long boots and neat haircut.(slide 12)

After 1968 in America hippie’s style appeared and it began to penetrate. Men began to have long hair and a beard. Men and women wore tunics, decorations made by their own hands and amulets.(slide 13)

S 3: 1970.Casual clothes are more restrained. In the fashion ensembles of clothes preferred the coats and jackets or shirts, trousers and blouses or shirts.

Especially popular were the different types of dresses. They wore coats, blouses and embroidered folk sweaters, Turkish shoes, bags over their shoulders, leather goods, jackets, Indian sari, Gypsy shirts, etc. (slide 14)

Disco style was a contrast to the strict casual style.(slide 15)

Features:exotic bright colors, tight pants, transparent blouse, massive decoration and clothes and makeup .

S 4:1980This is a period of extremes in everything in colour, combinations in of costume elements. At the same time there were a sport style, disco, military and punk, biker, rocker styles. Golden embroidery and rich decor dominate in the business style. We can seehuge shoulders and mini-skirts, shirts, shoes, black leather jackets.(slide 16)

1990.The individuality of the person was preferable in that period. A popular slogan of that time was: «Be yourself». The style of that period was Grande, ethnic and military. (slide 17)

T.: And last we come to the modern stile. Look at the picture and tell me “What is the features in modern style?”

This is an example list of some trends of the 21st century: Capri pants, handbags, sport suits and sports jackets, ripped jeans, designer jeans, blazer jackets, and high-heeled shoe. (slide 18)

And now at last tell me “What is fashion in your opinion? (slide 19)

Fashion is often used in a positive sense, as a synonym for glamour and style. It is a term usually used to describe what everyone is wearing.

Fashion is individual style of people's attitude to different forms of culture: to style of life, customs, cars and clothes. But when we use the word "fashion" in most cases we mean clothes. (slide 20)

IV The fastening of the material

T.: Well girls, we looked out the changes of fashion from the beginning of the 20^th century till our days and now I’d like to suggest you to do some tasks in groups.
