Цель урока: сформировать навыки письменной речи при написании введения в эссе на тему ««Isreadingimportantinthe 21 century?» с опорой на образец, используя изученные лексико-грамматические конструкции.
Задачи:

Ход урока.
I.Организационный момент. (Приветствие, постановка проблемы, тема, целеполагание.)
T: As you remember this year 2015 is declared the year of Foreign Literature. There will be an essay contest at our school. It’s devoted to literature and reading. I hope you’ll take part in this contest. Writing a successful essay requires a thorough preparation. So we should learn to collect and logically and graphically organize information for the essay, logically organize information within the essay in accordance with the rhetoric and discourse rules of the English language.
Today we are going to learn and practice in essay introduction which includes corresponding linking words, an appropriate structure and hooks. What are the aims of this lesson?
Possible students’ answers:
We should learn the structure of introduction.
We should learn corresponding linking words in introduction and practise to use them.
We should find out different ways of making an interesting introduction (hooks).
We should practice to write an introduction.
II. Актуализация изученного материала .
1.Актуализация изученного материала по теме “Thetypesofessay”.
T: As we know 2015 is a year of Literature that’s why we offered to write essays on topics connected with literature and reading. Look at the following list on the screen and read the topics. By the way, say what type of essay is required to write for each of these tasks:

2. Tell about your favorite book.
3. “To be a good pupil you have to read a lot”. What do you think about it?
4. Prove the necessity of reading.
5. Is reading important in the twenty first century? What is your opinion? What can you say for or against it?
6. It has been said: “Not everything that is learned is contained in books.” Compare knowledge from experience with knowledge gained from books. In your opinion , which source is more important?
Students’ possible answers:
Tasks 1 , 2 are required to write a descriptive essay (in which they mainly describe something),
Tasks 2is required to write a narrativeessay (in which they tell about some event)
Tasks 3,4,5.6, 7 are required to write a discursive essay (in which they discuss a problem, present their own point of view, give arguments for or against something, or compare and contrast some ideas).
T:Let’s choose the following task: Is reading important in the twenty first century? What is your opinion? What can you say for or against it?

A thesis statement
T: Now we should formulate a thesis statement. A thesis statement is a declarative sentence, which expresses the author’s attitude to the topic of the essay and is a part of the introduction. What is a thesis statement of this topic?
Possible students’ answers:
-Reading has always played an important role in life of people.
-Reading is considered to be an important thing nowadays.
- People have always agreed that the book is the main source of education and pleasure.
-There is no doubt that reading is one of most popular activity
Contemporary life of people is impossible without reading.
2 Linking words and discourse markers.
T:It is necessary to use relevant linking words and discourse markers to write a good introduction. Look at the table on the screen, write down them in your exercise books and try to learn them by heart.

Hooks.
T:Now we go on working with hooks. The introduction in the essay has a clear communicative aim. Certain "narrative hooks" can make the introduction interesting for the reader. The aim of the introduction is to attract the readers’ attention. This aim can be reached in the following ways:

3. the author makes a debatable statement, which leads on to the thesis;
4. the author gives sensational facts or statistics;

T: Using quotations or proverbs is a perfect way of griping readers’ attention. Read the following quotations or proverbs and translate them.
