Конспект урока по английскому языку для 10 класса, состоящий из трех этапов: презентация, практика, применение или present, practice, produce (PPP).

Тимофеева Яна Аликовна
учитель английского языка
Концепция публикации определяется стремлением осмыслить новый подход к освоению английских пословиц и поговорок. Новизна данной работы заключается в попытке осмыслить использование зарубежной модели построения урока PPP в процессе изучения иностранного языка.

Presentation.

Warm up (2 min) - Show flash cards with future developments – this activity will involve SS and enable them to see what they already know.

Context:

Listening for gist. Listen to the text and answer the question: What creature is the text about?

When I first saw this small mechanical creature, I thought of the famous robots from Star Wars or Spielberg’s AI. But Wakamaru was a new design and was constructed in Japan. It got its name from a young Japanese warrior. Watching Wakamaru gave me an incredible idea of what our life in the future might look like.

Wakamaru is not only friendly to people but it is also useful for your life at home. The device recognized me two owners (like parents) and up to eight other people. And it can even talk to you! At that time Wakamaru knew approximately 10,000 words and could answer you quickly. I saw that it could understand a conversation and could react appropriately to any situation.

What is more, a schedule was remembered easily by Wakamaru and something unusual was alerted. The programmers showed us an example: a burglar tried to enter the house and a loud sound was made by Wakamaru. Another situation was shown when nothing happened after a period of time, the device sent a message informing you or even the police.

Wakamaru also acted as a caring family member. It moved close to people when it spoke to them and it reminded them to take their medicines or make an appointment. Moreover, it asked health-related questions and got the answers for them via e-mail. But probably the most excited fact for me was that Wakamaru determined unusual human behavior and reacted to it. It did everything to find out what was wrong and then took steps to help fix the problem. For example, a man wasn’t woken up on time by an alarm clock, Wakamaru went in to check up him and helped the man.

This friendly intelligent robot can truly make your life more comfortable and peaceful. I liked it very much.

Clarification – paying attention to some new words.

- Was this idea exciting and wonderful? (yes)

- Was the idea awful? (no)

- Did I like the idea because it was incredible? (yes)

- intelligent

This friendlyintelligent robot can truly make your life more comfortable and peaceful.

- Is the robot clever or stupid? (clever)

- To be intelligent: is it a positive or negative characteristic? (positive)

- approximately

At that time Wakamaru knew approximately 10,000 words and could answer you quickly.

- Could the robot receive a message with the help of e-mail? (yes)

- Did it get a message via e-mail or a sheet of paper? (via e-mail)

- determine

But probably the most excited fact for me was that Wakamaru determined unusual human behavior and reacted to it.

- Did the robot understand human behavior? (yes)

- Was it able to calculate unusual actions? (yes)

Practice.Listening for comprehension with a certain indepth or details is not practice, it is receptive activity. For controlled practice ss have to use the target language to fill in the gaps, or to match the parts of the sentences, or to transform the fotms in case of target grammar structures

Listening for specific information. Listen the text one more time and answer the questions.

1) Why did the advert compare the robot to a Japanese warrior?

2) How useful can this robot be? What could it do?

3) How did it react when something unusual happened?

4) How could it react on human behavior?

5) What groups of people can this robot be useful for?

Produce.

Work in pairs. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of keeping this kind of robot in your home. Don’t forget to use “Dialogue vocabulary” and new words.

Report your various arguments back to the whole class using phrases (In my opinion…, Oh, I see…, I have never thought about it that way, I’m afraid I can’t agree…, First of all, Seconly, Thirdly, May I have a word, Excuse me for interrupting, I’d like to say..)
