The free ticket

Allison Lumsden lived by herself in a small house. One day she received a letter. When she opened the letter there was a cinema ticket inside. There was also a note in the letter. It said,

'Here is a free ticket to the cinema on Saturday night. Enjoy yourself.‘

However there was no name with the letter. Allison decided to telephone her friends to find out who sent her the present. First of all she called her father.

"Dad. Did you send me a cinema ticket?"

"No," he replied. "Perhaps it was your brother."

Allison called her brother.

"Andrew. Did you send me a cinema ticket?"

"No," he replied. "Perhaps it was Roberta."

Roberta was Allison's best friend so she rang her.

"Roberta. Did you send me a cinema ticket?" "No," she replied.

Allison phoned all her-friends but none of them had sent her the ticket. She decided to phone the manager of the cinema.

"My name is Allison Lumsden. I received a free ticket for your cinema on Saturday night. Did you send it to me?"

"No," said the manager.

Allison was puzzled. On Saturday night she did not know what to do but then she decided to use the ticket. She put on her coat and went to the cinema. It was a good film and she enjoyed herself. When she got home she was very surprised. There was a note on the front door of her house. It said,

Exercise 6.Read, translate and reproduce the dialogue. Make up your own dialogue.

Voronin:Did you watch the news programme on television yesterday,Mr Blake?

Mr Blake:No, my wife and I went to the cinema last night.

Voronin:What was on?

Mr Blake:We saw a new comedy at the Odeon. It started at 7 and lasted till 10, as it is a two-part film.

Voronin:Was the cinema full?

Mr Blake:Oh, yes. It's a very popular film. I recommend you to go and see it.

Voronin:Thank you, but I don't like comedies very much.

Mr Blake:What kind of films do you like?

Voronin:Well, I like good love stories or musicals. I never watch horror

films or old Westerns. Actually, historical films in black and white or in

colour are my favourite films. I also like detective films and thrillers.

Voronin:Yes, if they are close to the original and if popular actors star in them.

Exercise 7. Коммуникативнаяигра «An important guest» (An interview with 18 -year-old American film and TV actor Fred Savage, who starred in the TV series “The Wonder Years.”) Ask the star the questions to know more about his/her career in cinema. Обучаемые должны представить себе, что они ждут в гости знаменитого зарубежного актера. Один из участников игры - иностранный актер входит в комнату, здоровается со всеми по очереди, отвечает на вопросы, стараясь правильно говорить на иностранном языке. Все обучаемые задают ему разные вопросы о его работе, семье и т. д. Актер отвечает на них и сам задает вопросы окружающим. Каждый из учеников приглашает зарубежного гостя побывать у него дома, соответствующим образом стремясь заинтересовать его. Актер должен выбрать только одно предложение и аргументировать свой выбор.

Exercise 15. Form the Present Perfect Tense.

Jack (be) my friend for over 20 years. We (know) each other since we were children. Recently, he and his family (move) to a house on the same street as me, and now our children play together almost every day.
For the last ten years, Jack and I (play) for the same hockey team every Saturday. Exercise 19.Scenario. Act the situations out.

A) You are going to spend the night in your friend's apartment while he (or she) is away. Unfortunately, you have lost the key. Your friend told you that the neighbour has an extra key. How will you convince this neighbour that you, a stranger, should be given this key so that you can get into the apartment?

B) You have an extra key to the apartment next door. The owner of the apartment has asked you to be careful about letting others use the key because there have been several burglaries in the neighbourhood. Someone has just come to your door to ask for the key. How will you make certain that this person is sincere and should have it?
