DESCRIPTION OF SPECIALTY “FOREIGN LANGUAGE:TWO
FOREIGN LANGUAGES”
Aforeign language is a language originally from another country. It is also a language not spoken in the native country of the person referred to, i.e., an English speaker living in Spain can say that Spanish is a foreign language to him or her. These two characterizations do not exhaust the possible definitions, however, and the label is occasionally applied in ways that are variously misleading or factually inaccurate.
Some children learn more than one language from birth or from a very young age: they are bilingual or multilingual. These children can be said to have two, three or more mother tongues: neither language is foreign to that child, even if one language is a foreign language for the vast majority of people in the child's birth country. For example, a child learning English from his English father and Irish at school in Ireland can speak both English and Irish, but neither is a foreign language to him. This is common in countries such as India, South Africa, or Canada due to these countries having multiple official languages.
In general, it is believed that children have advantage to learning a foreign language over adults. However, there are studies which have shown adult students are better at foreign language learning than child students. It is because adults have pre-existing knowledge of how grammar works, and a superior ability of memorizing vocabulary.
The importance of learning languages, especially english
In our university are taught for example Chinese, Turkish, French, Spanish. Student can choose one or two of these languages. But main foreign language is always English. The oldest language is Kazakh.
REASON FOR LEARNING FOREIGN LANGUAGES
Learning foreign languages is very important for everybody. There are many reasons to study them:
- There is possibility to converse with people from other countries or of different nations, communicate with them, learn about their cultures, work with them or do business…
- Studying another language helps you become more competitiveafter graduation from school and get a good job…
- We need foreign languages for traveling abroad, for reading foreign materials ( books, newspapers ), for business communication, for cultural reason
( watching films, visiting concerts and exhibitions ) or for corresponding with our friends…
HOW TO LEARN FOREIGN LANGUAGE
In the Czech Republic, people most learn languages as English, German, French, Spanish and Russian. There are various ways how to learn foreign languages:
- Usually they start to learn a foreign language at basic school and then they continue at secondary school. Evidently at eachuniversity students study some foreign language…
- Many people come to foreign countries to improve their language…
- People can also attend language schools or summer language courses. There are for example courses in General, Technical or Business English and so on.
- But we can learn language also by internet, TV, books, some special magazines and so on…
Advantages and disadvantages of foreign language
First of all, although it is automatically assumed that someone studying foreign language as a major field is going to be either, a teacher, an interpreter, or a translator. A second language is now becoming a vital part of our life. Every employer is looking for people who know foreign language and have computer skills. It is difficult to find a good job if you do not know English or German, for example. Second, it is a very common and growing desire of the young people to travel and study abroad. Most of them are looking for a better job and other are looking for adventures and enjoyments. In both of the cases, it is easier to know the language of the country where you travel or study, but also have a more pleasant experience and greater understanding of a people.
