Star child

Narrator: Once upon a time there lived a woodman. He had a family: a wife and two daughters. They were very poor but very kind and generous.

They lived in the village near the forest. Once the woodman went to to the forest to bring some firewood. This is how it all started.

In the forest.

Woodman: What a day! So frosty and windy today and I have got so little firewood. I am getting old and sick. My poor little daughters, my poor wife! They are cold in our house. But what is it? A star?

What can it be? A child? Who has left this poor baby alone in the forest? Hey? Is anybody here? Whose baby is it? I better take him home.

At home.

My dear, look! I have found him in the forest.

Wife: But it must be a joke. Just look at the cloth he is in. It’s so expensive. He must be a prince.

Woodman: Who knows. First I saw a shooting star. I ran where it fell. And what I saw. This little baby boy. No doubt, he is a star child. May be it’s a present for us. Let’s leave him with us.

Wife: I don’t know what to say. Anyway, we can’t leave him alone in the forest.

Narrator: So the star child stayed at the woodman’s family. Several years passed. But we see.

Girls: AAA, daddy, daddy, help! The star child is chasing us. He wants to hit us with his stick.

Star child: You stupid little creatures. How dare you to talk to me? Just look at me! I am a starchild! I am from the star! And you are just dirty poor ugly things. HA-HA-HA!

Woodman: Stop it, boy! You have gone too far! They are your sisters. You live with them and they don’t do any harm to you.

Star child: I don’t care. I just don’t want to have anything in common with them!

Wife: What a boy! He is so cruel though he is beautiful. But when he behaves like this, all his beauty is gone.

Woodman: You are right, my dear, you are right!

An old woman.

Narrator: One day an old poor woman came to the village. She was very tired and looked unhappy.

An old woman: Excuse me, may I have a rest here? I am so tired. I won’t disturb you.

Woodman: Of course, you may. We are very glad to let you rest here. Are you hungry?

An old woman: Oh, no. Thank you.

Wife: Where are you going?

An old woman: I have been going around the world for many years. I have been looking for my son.

Woodman: What happened to him?

An old woman: He was kidnapped by bad people. They attacked us in the forest.

Wife: Oh, dear! How old was your son?

An old woman: He was a baby. He couldn’t walk. He was wrapped in a blue cloth.

Woodman: Wait a minute! What cloth? With stars?

An old woman: Yes, yes, have you seen my baby?

Wife: It’s unbelievable, stay here. Look! Is it yours?

An old woman: It can’t be true! I can’t believe my eyes! But! Where is my son? What did you do with him? Is he alive?

Woodman:Don’t worry! He is alive. I found him several years ago in the forest. I took him here, he is like our son. He is somewhere not far, I suppose. Star child, come here!

Star child: What?

Wife: Look this is your mother.

Star child: Where?

Woodman: Here she is.

Star child: What are you talking about? I see only the poor dirty begger.

Woodman: This is your mother. She has been looking for you for many years.

An old woman: My son, my poor son.

Star child: Don’t touch me! Don’t touch me! You can’t be my mother! My mother is beautiful like me! Do you know who I am? I am a star child! And you! You are just a begger! A dirty, stinky begger!

Woodman: How can you say this? Shame on you!

Wife: You are so cruel! Don’t you feel sorry for your mother?

Star child: Leave me alone! I am not going to listen to all this rubbish!

An old woman: My son, my son! I have been looking for you so long! Please! Don’t go away! I can’t live without you!

Woodman and wife: Calm down, calm down! Don’t cry! Come down, please!

Narrator: So the star child pushed his poor mother away! She could do nothing but go away. But what about the star child?

Star child: I am so beautiful! I am the most beautiful boy in the world! I love my reflexion in water! But what is it? Who is it? No, no, no! It’s not me! No!

Narrator: As you see, the star child became ugly! All his ugly and cruel inside went outside! And his face became as ugly as his soul!

Star child: I know! I know! I abused my mother! I must find her! I must apologize to her! I am sure I will do it! No matter how hard it can be!

On the way to his mother.

Narrator: And the star child went to look for his mother. The way was hard, the way was long. He met a lot of people, but all people laughed at him and nobody wanted to talk to him. He was very unhappy. But he didn’t give up. He continued to go ahead. He was looking for his mother. On his way he helped poor animals and birds who got in a trouble. He was a different boy now.

Once he came to a town. He was so tired that he couldn’t walk any more. There was a bench near the town hall. He decided to take a seat for a while. Then suddenly he saw that old woman.

Star child: Mother, mother! At last I have found you! My mother!

An old woman: Who is talking to me? Who are you? Get away from me! You ugly scary creature! Get away from me!

Star child: Mother! I am your son! Please forgive me! I know I don’t deserve your love! I offended you! But mother! I understood everything! I see now how bad I was to you and the people who loved me! I promise! I won’t do it again!

An old woman: My son! I see my son. My dear boy! Of course I forgive you! I am so happy you are with me!

The star child became beautiful again. But this time his beauty was not only on his face but in his heart and soul too! His mother also became beautiful at once! They were so happy now!
