Цели: развитие функциональной грамотности (читательская грамотность, естественно-научная грамотность, глобальные компетенции)

Задачи:

1. Введение и первичное закрепление новой лексики;

2. Закрепление навыка работы со словарем;

3. Развитие навыка работы в сотрудничестве;

4. Развитие умения найти необходимую информацию в таблице и преобразовать ее в текст;

5. Развитие монологической речи;

6. Развитие логики, личностной рефлексии.

Ход урока

1. Определение темы урока.

Look at the pictures on a screen. What unites them? Complete the sentence. (They are symbols of Russia)

You’re right. Today we are going to talk about the national symbol of different countries. But what symbol exactly? To answer this question we need to solve the rebus puzzle /ˈriːbəs/. (Flower)

Exactly! We will get acquainted with national symbols – flowers -of some countries. It is our purpose of the lesson.

Our first task is to know the new words.

1. Деление на группы.

I see that you have remembered the flowers. Now you are going to work in 4 teams. The wheel of fortune will help us.

Now it’s time to work with the fact files in exercise 2. Each of the team will work with one fact file. Your team should learn this fact file and write a short essay about your flower. Use the plan. Then your team will present your essay to the class in English and translate it into Russian for the classmates and our guests. If there are some words you don’t know, use the dictionary in the Student’s book.

I will give you an example about the national flower of Russia – chamomile.

• Now you can’t tell anything about the national flowers of England and Northern Ireland. But you will have a chance to know about them. As you know, the topic of our lesson is comparatives and superlatives of adjectives. Now your team will get a test with 4 questions. 1 correct answer is one clue for your essay.

• Let’s begin. As soon as you do the test, raise your hand. I will check the answers and give you the clues. Mind criteria – содержание – the fewer sentences, the lower mark you get.

• Now you will work in 2 big teams. Decide who should begin the story, who should continue. Prepare a story.

The symbol goes back to the War of the Roses.

In the 15^th century, two Houses were struggling for the English throne – the Lancastrians and the Yorkists.

Red rose was the emblem of the Lancastrians.

The white rose was the emblem of Yorkists.

The struggle ended when King Henry VII, the Lancastrian, married Princess Elizabeth, the daughter of the Yorkist.

Since that time the red rose has become the national symbol of England.

The national flower of Northern Ireland is a shamrock.

It is green.

It has three leaves (лист).

It is associated (ассоциируется) with Saint (святой) Patrick.

He is a the Saint patron (святойпокровитель) of Ireland.

An Irish tale (сказание) tells that Patrick used the shamrock to symbolize the Trinity (СвятуюТроицу): the Father, the Son, The Holy Spirit.

People wear the shamrock on the clothes on Saint Patrick’s holiday.

People say that shamrock brings good luck.
