Research

Okey-dokey

We use it in our every day life. It became international interjection but what do we know about it? Most of you answer that you do know it let’s check it up. First of all i`d like to tell about its origin.

This little phrase is a variant of okay. It is 20th century American and first appears in print in a 1932 edition of American Speech and here is another Okey-dokey and the variant okey-doke indeed mean O.K. and are simply playful versions of it. They did not, however, appear in print until the 1930's, and while O.K. is now considered colloquial (i.e., fine for use in conversation and informal writing), these two variations of it are still slang.

Meaning

Okay. There are some late 20th century alternative meanings.

  1. ok: used for showing that you accept something or agree with something

Synonyms or related words for this sense of okey-dokey

Ways of agreeing with someone: OK, of course, no, yes, right, oh, done, okey-dokey, ditto, righto... more

ok: used when you want to start or continue talking about something

Synonyms or related words for this sense of okey-dokey

Ways of starting a statement or conversation: well, oh, okey-dokey, for the sake of argument, I know, for openers... more

There are several alternative spellings - okay-doke, okey-doke, okee-doke, etc. In addition to these is the comic version The Simpsons that has brought the phrase back to popular attention in recent years.

" Okey-doke, here it is.

We make a survey between our pupils. We asked them a few questions about OK interjection. According to our research we can summarize that most of students do not know the origin, all meanings and decipherment of the most popular interjection, but they widely use it in their every day life.

Conclusion

We use interjections to express our emotions and they have no connection or relationship grammatically to the sentence. So you can use it or not, but they are very common in English conversations. I think that it’s very important to know them, their meanings and emotions they describe.

Sum up, I`d like to tell that Interjections are an excellent way of expressing emotion within the dialogue of your prose. Use them sparingly and appropriately, it can help you to breathe a new sounds to your speaking skills in English.
