Introduction

If modern life is unimaginable without fast food and more and more people eat it, fast food does not always do harm, but can do good to people.

Fast food is delicious and kids do love it. However, there has been much debate about whether it should be served in school canteens. Fast food is delicious and kids do love it…

There is a growing movement aimed to ban fast food and vending machines from schools.

You may have seen news reports of protests against the giant fast-food chains. Some parents are claiming the chains target.

What is “Fast food”?

Fast food is the term given to food that can be prepared and served very quickly

The term "fast food" was recognized in a dictionary by Merriam-Webster in 1951. Fast food is a kind of dishes that can be cooked and served within 15 minutes. Pizza, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hotdogs, shawarma, French fries, doughnuts, pancakes, calamari and onion rings, chicken and fish nuggets are made of pre-cooked ingredients preliminary stored in a fridge. All these dishes are served hot. Mayonnaise and tomato sauces as well as deep fat frying make them tasty but caloric.

History of fast food

Richard and Maurice McDonald, the two brothers who created the first McDonald's restaurant in 1948 in San Bernardino, California today, fast food chains have spread all around the world.

Visiting McDonalds or any other popular fast-food restaurants can be a pleasant weekend activity. Children and teenagers love not only tasty food there, but also the atmosphere of joy and happiness. Parents may insist on buying some salads to make the meal less hazardous.

Varieties of fast food

Pop Corn

It is made from corn.

But what about the first word “pop”?

When you put a kernel of corn on a fire, the water inside makes the corn explode. This makes a “pop” noise. That why we call it popcorn.

The hamburger

The hamburger has no connection to ham, but with the German town of Hamburg, which is famous for its ground steak. German immigrants to the USA and introduced the “hamburger steak”. In 1904, it was served on buns for the first time.

Coca- Cola

Coca-Cola first was an all purpose medicine, made in 1886 by a druggist from Atlanta. He made a brown syrup by mixing coca leaves and cola nuts.

Another druggist, Jacobs, decided to sell Coca-Cola as fountains drink and mixed the syrup with soda water.

The Hot Dog

The original name of the hot dog was the frankfurter, after the German city of Frankfurt. In the United States frankfurters, sausages on buns were first sold in the 1860s. But for Americans the name “dachshund sausage” seemed to be a good one for the frankfurter. In actual fact, a dachshund is a dog from Germany with a very long body and short legs. Dachshund sausages first became popular in New-York especially at baseball games, where they were sold by men keeping them warm in hot water tanks.

The men walked up and down the rows of people and yelled “Get your hot dachshund sausages here!” And in 1906 the newspaper cartoonist Tad Dorgan saw the men with the dachshund sausages and got an idea for a cartoon: he drew a bun with a dachshund inside – not a sausage but a dog.

The cartoonist didn’t know how to spell the word “dachshund” and under the picture he just wrote: “Get your hot dogs!” The cartoon was a sensation as well as the name. If you go to a baseball game today, you can still see sellers walking around with hot water tanks and yelling, “Get your hot dogs here! Get your hot dogs here!

Influence of fast food on health.

Fast foods cause obesity. Eating a small portion by volume, a lover of fast food for one meal can consume a dose of calories, which will exceed the daily! And if you eat breakfast, lunch and dinner junk food, obesity is assured. And the consequences of obesity are many: it is a metabolic disorder, and diabetes, and heart problems Fast food contain many chemistry: food supplements, colorants, flavors, smell and flavor enhancers, preservatives, etc. Such a mixture can be harmful for the body.

Fast food often eaten cold food on the go, it cannot disrupt the digestive system. Dog is a victim of fast food.

The main reason of such weight was fast food…

9.Fast food in the world

Today, fast food chains have spread all around the world. Nowadays fast food restaurants open everywhere – from big megalopolises to small towns. They have their advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand, McDonalds, KFC and Subway help us save our money and time, but, on the other hand, they don’t offer us healthy meals. Hamburgers, cheeseburgers, fries, muffins and milk cocktails are tasty, but not very good for our health and figure.

10.Advantages of fast food

The most evident advantage of fast food is that it saves time. In today's fast-paced life, there is nothing better than getting a ready meal. Besides the time an individual has to spend in the kitchen, cooking a meal, also requires one to make a trip to the supermarket to buy the ingredients for the dish. Then, there is the added effort and time consumed in washing and peeling the vegetables. All this makes eating fast food more preferable over cooking a meal for a busy individual.

11.Disadvantages of fast food

Usually, fast food is higher in soya, fat, sugar, oil, fried meat, salt, cheese, and mayonnaise. The greatest disadvantage of fast food is the adverse effect that it has on one's health. It may contain harmful bacteria too. Frying also destroys most of the essential nutrients from the food. Very small amounts of vegetables and fruits are present in fast food.

It contains larger amounts of salt, oil and fat contents

12.My personal opinion is that

Kids that do not like the menu of the day in the school canteen can choose some snacks and a soft drink from a vending machine or they might get a snack during extracurricular activities to hold them over until supper.

Just replace French fries with a baked potato or salad. Replace the large soda pops with skim milk, and choose the right portion sizes for both foods and drinks.

If we want to live long, we should pay attention to what we eat. A healthy diet usually includes a lot of fruit and vegetables, regular portions of fish or white meat, grains, nuts and a few liters of water per day. It is better to choose products without artificial ingredients and with minimal quantity of sugar.
It is possible to come to a conclusionthat not the fast food, but our relation to food in general is harmful.
Choosing exclusively fast food, we consciously push ourselves in embraces of diseases. Eat properly, eat with taste!
