«Moscow is the capital of Russia»

Moscow is the capital of Russia. It is one of the biggest and most beautiful cities in the world. Moscow is the main political, economic, educational and cultural centre of this country. President of Russia lives and works there.

Moscow is situated on the Moscow-river. The city was founded in 1147 by Yuri Dolgoruky. This region is one of the most highly developed and densely populated areas of Russia.

We say that Moscow is a port of five seas, as the Moscow-Volga Canal links Moscow with the Baltic, White, Caspian and Black seas and the Sea of Azov.

There are many places of interest in our capital. The heart of Moscow is Red Square. The Moscow Kremlin and St. Basil's Cathedral are masterpieces of Russian architecture. For those who are fond of art the best place to visit is the Tretyakov Gallery or the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts. The Gallery contains hundreds of masterpieces not only of Russian art but also of many other countries. Moscow is proud of the Bolshoi, Maly and Art theatres.

There are 60 professional theatres, 74 museums in Moscow.

Moscow is the scientific centre, too. The Academy of Sciences of Russia, the oldest university, many schools of higher education, colleges and scientific institutions are located there.

One of the highest buildings in Moscow is the State Moscow University. It was founded in 1755 by the great scientist Mikhail Lomonosov.

Moscow is a very beautiful city. It has a great number of green parks, large squares and wide streets. There are lots of museums and theatres, cinemas and exhibition in Moscow. Many concerts, shows, festivals, presentation take place every day in our capital.

It is necessary to mention such famous monuments as monuments to the great Russian writer Alexander Pushkin and to the first Russian printer Ivan Fedorov.

The population of the city is 10406,6 thousand the man (2005), area: 1081 kms / кв (2005).

The city Moscow - vast megalopolis including 9 administrative districts, in which structure, in turn, enters 120 administrative areas...

Moscow have thousands of factories. What they make is not used in the capital only. Different machines, cars, watches, clothes, toys and very many other things go to all parts of the country.

Moscow is an industrial centre with highly developed engineering, electric, light and chemical industries.

Moscow is the country's largest sports centre. It often becomes a scene of international sports festivals.

Trains and plans come to the capital every day from all parts of Russia and from other countries. 

 Moscow is a very big city, and its transport must be comfortable and fast. One can see a lot of cars, buses, trolleybuses and trams in the streets of Moscow.

The Moscow metro began its work on the 15th of May, 1935. There were 13 stations at that time. Now it has 190 stations. Our metro is a beautiful and convenient one.
