Задачи:

2. Yes, we are going to speak about people of different nationalities. And the theme of our lesson is: “How to understand those mysterious strangers?”

Today we are going to:
Train to understand each other speaking English.
Learn some interesting facts about people of different nationalities.
Describe national traits of character of people from different countries.
Train to use the language of e-mails writing personal letters.
To sum up: today we will learn a lot of interesting facts which could help us to understand “Those Mysterious Foreigners”.
During the lesson you will get special cards for the right answers or well-done tasks. At the end of the lesson those who will have more cards will get excellent marks.
3.ИГРА. At first I would like to check if you can understand each other speaking English.
We are going to play a game “Alias”. It’s a German game. This word is translated “also known as/ the same as”. You should explain to other students some words from the cards that I’ll give you not using this word from the card or related words. These word combinations can help you:

The Russians.
Russians are impressed with size and numbers, and much that they do is оnа grand scale (высокийуровень). This is not unusual for such а vast country. Russians think and act big.
Russians think of themselves as members of the community rather than as individuals. The origin of the Russian communalism lies deep in the vastness of the Great Russian Plain.
Nature has not bееn kind to Russia. Much of European Russia and Siberia is very cold most of the year. In Old Russia, people could do little during winter months. But in spring there was much to bе done, and in а short period of time. This' explains why Russians often are inactive for long periods of time and then show bursts of energy. The harsh climate explains the Russians' strength, their ability to overcome hardships, as well as their patience and submission. Climate has also made them cautious.
Their cruel climate, harsh history, and skeptical outlook (взгляд)оn life have made Russians value (ценить) stability, security, social order, and predictability, and to avoid (избегать) risk.
То understand the Russians, оnе must know from where they соmе from.

6. At home you have prepared mini-projects about some other nationalities. While you listen to each other try to answer to yourself the same questions as in the previous exercise.

7. Let’s check how attentively you have listened to each other. Which adjectives in the box do you think go with the given nationalities? Form sentences like: “German people are formal”. Try not to form sentences about the nation which you prepared for today.

8. Now I see that you know a lot to understand foreigners. Tell me please, how can you, ordinary Russian students communicate with foreign people. By what means? With the help of what?

But do you know that in modern English there are special words that are used to reduce (minimise) the length of the message in social nets? For example:
BB [Bye Bye] — "Счастливо!"
ASAP [As Soon As Possible] — "Какможнораньше"
OMG – [Oh, my God!] – «О,Боже!»
Do you want to learn more about these words?
These words are called acronyms ['akrənɪm], they are abbreviated words formed from the first letters of other words or word combinations.
The oldest acronyms are:
radar - ra(dio) d(etection) a(nd) r(anging)
laser – l(ight) a(mplification) by s(timulated) e(mission) of r(adiation)
9. At your desks you have the list of the most common decoded acronyms used in the social nets. You have also the translation. Try to decode and translate these messages:
