PUBLIC RELATION

A PR manager is a specialist who is responsible for creating and maintaining a favorable image of a firm or a specific brand owned by that firm.

The so-called “PR man” is responsible for interacting with the external environment, he assesses, analyzes and predicts factors affecting the company's image and its development. This is how it differs from the advertising manager, who promotes only a particular service or product.

PR-manager provides mutual understanding and cooperation between the organization and customers, journalists, authorities at all levels, the population. This complex process includes several important responsibilities: 1) preparing press releases about the company and transferring them to the media; 2) responses to media inquiries about the activities of the company; 3) organization of press conferences for interviews with the management of the company; 4) interaction with the authorities and the local population; 5) interaction with financial circles (for example, with investors). We should also highlight the organization and conduct of various PR campaigns.

Every major firm has at least a PR position. In large banks, corporations, companies, PR managers work in special departments or PR departments.

There are also special PR-agencies that have a wide range of customers - from trading companies to well-known artists. Two groups of specialists work here. The first group includes copywriters (creators) who figure out how to conduct one or more activities. The second group consists of technology. The latter implement the developed concepts, that is, they directly hold presentations, press conferences, exhibitions, etc.

Regardless of the name of the position, the essence of the functionality of this kind of specialists remains unchanged, and, first of all, the PR-manager “cares and cherishes” relations with the media, since it is necessary to maintain or create a positive opinion about the organization’s activities. One of the most significant tasks of PR departments is research on identifying interested audiences and establishing contacts with them, understanding their interests, expectations and developing appropriate programs for this. The budget of such programs directly depends on what the organization is striving for and what resources it is ready to spend on it.

Today, management is one of the most sought-after areas in the field of activity of any organization. However, its most interesting area is PR. This current, well established in the West, came to Russia relatively recently: in the “post-perestroika” period. Today we can state with confidence the fact that the technologies used by them are gaining popularity among a wide circle of people. Buying a book, reading interviews, listening to speeches by well-known politicians, we unknowingly become a consumer of the product that PR managers have done for us.

For a PR manager, the most obvious example of his professional success is his portfolio (information on completed projects). PR-activity is quite easily verifiable and tangible. Employers with the help of special mechanisms can assess the past work of a PR man: did he bring a new brand to the market, could he increase his awareness and increase sales, and also change the opinion of direct consumers about the product or services.
