Dear guests!

We are glad to welcome you to our traditional annual dedicated to Shakespeare's work.

For the 42nd time, our lyceum has been welcoming participants and guests of the festival to share the joy of creativity with us.

More than four centuries separate us from the time when the great William Shakespeare lived and worked. Many brilliant playwrights created amazing dramas and comedies after him, but it is impossible to name his equals in this field. Hundreds of books have been written about Shakespeare. The researchers of his work were A. S. Pushkin, I. S. Turgenev, F. M. Dostoevsky, G. Heine, V. Hugo, B. Shaw. Belinsky called Shakespeare the king of dramatic poets, "crowned with the whole of humanity."

Creation can outlive the Creator:

The Creator will leave, defeated by nature,

Сцена 1: The Court of Elsinore

HAMLET:
To be, or not to be: that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep;

(CLAUDIUSделаетшагвперед,прерываяГамлета.)

CLAUDIUS:
What means this soliloquy, nephew? Art thou lost
In thoughts so dark they cloud thy princely mind?
Think rather of thy duty to thy crown,
Than dwell on shadows that torment thy soul.

(GERTRUDEподходит, мягко протестуя против слов КLAUDIUS.)

GERTRUDE:
My son, thy grief doth break my heart in twain.
Yet life must go on, though hearts may ache.
Thy father's memory lives within us still,
But time heals wounds, if we but let it.

(OPHELIAвступает, обращаясь к Гамлету с тревогой.)

OPHELIA:
O Hamlet, dear, what troubles weigh thy brow?
Thy love for me once burned as bright as stars,
Yet now thou art consumed by darker fires.
Speak, if thou canst, and let me share thy pain.

HAMLET:
No more; and by a sleep to say we end
The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to, 'tis a consummation

(POLONIUS вмешивается, пытаясь отвлечь Гамлета от его мыслей.)

POLONIUS:
Young prince, such musings lead to naught but woe.
Engage thy mind in matters of the state,
And leave these fanciful thoughts to idle minds.
Action, not contemplation, makes a man.

(COURTIER 1 & COURTIER 2 шепчутсямеждусобой,комментируяситуацию.)

COURTIER 1:
The prince is surely mad, or else possessed.
Who would abandon all for empty dreams?

COURTIER 2:
Perhaps his grief hath driven him too far.
A royal mind should think of greater things.

HAMLET:
For who would bear the whips and scorns of time,
Th'oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely,
The pangs of despised love, the law's delay,
The insolence of office and the spurns
That patient merit of the unworthy takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare bodkin?

(Он поворачивается к каждому персонажу, как будто ожидая ответа.)

CLAUDIUS:
Enough of this! Thy words betray thy mind,
And hint at deeds I dare not contemplate.
Cease this discourse, or face the king's displeasure.

GERTRUDE:
Dear child, why dost thou speak of death so freely?
Life is a gift, however fraught with pain.
Find strength within thee to endure, my son.

OPHELIA:
If death be thy desire, then take me with thee.
Without thy love, my world hath lost its light.

(Гамлет делает последнее заявление, обращаясь ко всем.)

HAMLET:
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all;
And thus the native hue of resolution
Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought,
And enterprises of great pitch and moment
With this regard their currents turn awry,
And lose the name of action.

In a little over a month !

Even from the salt of hypocritical tears,

the redness on her eyelids subsided!

Scene II A hall in the castle.

Enter Hamlet and Players

Hamlet - Speak the speech, I pray you, as I pronounced it to you.

First Player - Yes, your honour.

Hamlet - Let your own discretion be your tutor: suit the action to the word, the word to the action!

First Player - I hope we have reformed that, sir.

Hamlet - Go, make you ready.

(Danish march. A flourish. Enter King Claudius, Queen Gertrude, Polonius, Ophelia, Rosencrantz, Guildenstern, and others).

Hamlet - They are coming to the play; I must be idle:

King Claudius - How fares our cousin Hamlet?

Hamlet - Excellent, in faith (to Claudius)

My lord, you played once in the university, you say? (To Polonius)

Lord Polonius - That did I, my lord; and was accounted a good actor.

Hamlet - What did you act?

Lord Polonius - I did act Julius Caesar: I was killed. Brutus killed me.

Hamlet - It was a brute part of him to kill so capital a calf there. Are the players ready?

Queen Gertrude - Come hither, my dear Hamlet, sit by me.

Hamlet No, good mother, here's metal more attractive.

Hamlet - Lady, shall I lie in your lap? (Lying down at Ophelia's feet).

Ophelia - No, my lord.

Hamlet - I mean, my head upon your lap?

Ophelia - Yes, my lord. You are merry, my lord.

Hamlet - Who, I?

Ophelia - Yes, my lord.

Hamlet - O God! What should a man do but be merry? For, look you, how cheerfully my mother looks, and my father died within these two hours.

Ophelia - Nay, 'tis twice two months, my lord.

Hamlet - So long? O heavens! Die two months ago, and not forgotten yet? (to himself).

Enter two Players, King and Queen

Player King - Full thirty times has Phoebus' cart gone round
Neptune's salt wash and Tellus' orbed ground,
Since love our hearts and Hymen did our hands
Unite in most sacred bands.

Player Queen
Oh, women's fear and love holds quantity;
And as my love is sized, my fear is so:
Where love is great, the littlest doubts are fear;
Where little fears grow great, great love grows there.

Player King - Faith, I must leave thee, love, and shortly too;
My powers their functions leave to do:
And you will live in this fair world behind,
Honour'd, beloved; and haply for husband will you...

Player Queen - In second husband ?! Let me be accurst!
None wed the second, but who kill'd the first.

A second time I kill my husband dead,
When second husband kisses me in bed.

Player King - I do believe you think what now you speak;
So think thou will no second husband wed;
But die your thoughts when your first lord is dead.

Player Queen - Both here and hence pursue me lasting strife,
If, once a widow, ever I be wife!

Hamlet - If she should break it now! (Apart)

Player King

Sweet, leave me here awhile;
My spirits grow dull, and fain I would beguile
The tedious day with sleep.

(Sleeps)

Player Queen

Sleep rock thy brain,
And never come mischance between us twain!

(Exit)

Hamlet (to Gertrude) Madam, how like you this play?

Queen Gertrude - The lady protests too much, methinks.

Hamlet - O, but she'll keep her word.

King Claudius - Have you heard the argument? Is there no offence in 't?

Hamlet - No, no, they do but jest, poison in jest; no offence in the world

King Claudius - What do you call the play?

Hamlet - The Mouse-trap.

(Enter Lucianus)

Hamlet(to Lucianus) - So,begin, murderer, come!

Lucianus

Thoughts black, hands apt, drugs fit, and time agreeing;
Else no creature seeing;
Thou mixture rank, of midnight weeds collected,
Thy natural magic and dire property,
On wholesome life usurp immediately. (Pours the poison into the sleeper's ears).

(The Queen returns; finds the King dead, and makes passionate action. The Poisoner, with some two or three Mutes, comes in again, seeming to lament with her. The dead body is carried away. The Poisoner wooes the Queen with gifts: she seems loath and unwilling awhile, but in the end accepts his love).

Hamlet - He poisons him in the garden for his estate! His name's Gonzago. You will see how the murderer gets the love of Gonzago's wife.

Hamlet(to himself) - What, frighted with false fire!

Queen Gertrude - How fares my lord?

Lord Polonius - Stop the play!

King Claudius - Give me some light: away!

All - Lights, lights, lights!
